career dilemma?

I am facing a choice that will probably change my life forever.

Biascally, it is either A or B

Job choices:
A: Military - Lousy lifestyle, above-average pay.
B: Private sector?

A: Currently, i am working in the Military with a job that is very prestigous and well-paid. I may not be able to climb the ladder high as i am hindered by my education level (i am not able to go to university, my grades arent good enough).

With that said, i dun like the lifestyle there, I am not the type of person that loves the life of being in the military (For those who serve NS will know what its like). Also, the money part, its basically fixed, i wont be rich, nor will i ever be poor. (But due to my job, the salary itself is in the upper-tier in the military)

B: I really like to go for something that is self-driven. How much i work is how much i will be paid, theres a realy chance i will make it big. I have confidence in myself. im eyeing becoming a broker or a banker or something like that. Or maybe, start a business. But the sad truth is, i really dun know how its like out there in such industries(am i being naive?). I also love the freedom that the private sector brings.

What should i do? Continue with my Military career or go to the private sector and maybe... become someone

Continue with yr military life. Since u can’t make it to U,don’t expect u can make it big outside with yr present cert! Tell yrself,r u a outrovert and have a business mind?? Btw,a banker life is very hectic. weekend also need to work,do sales and many ,many other thing.. U think their lifestyle is vey regular?

Well, from what i understand, self-driven jobs like sales do not require a really good cert. (Thats also one of the reasons i wish to leave the military as your performance is not really taken into account, but rather your cert)

Extrovert - Yes, i am.
To be absolutely honest, i am good-looking, well-read and speak really well (i know i may seem very up myself, but the reason for stating the above is not because i wish to boast, but to disclose as much as possible so you may help me)

A hectic lifestyle is alright. In fact, i find that challenging and enjoyable. What i dun like is regimentation of the military (etc; hair, protocol and the like).

I quit my military career to join private sector as military have mandatory retirement age and when you come out what are you going to do as you have no working experience of the outside world?

If you have family, you will have a hard time after you left the military Neutral

Hmmmm...

In my case, after a military career, i am able to join the private sector and earn a high pay. (at least 6k minimum but most of them earn about 10k per month after about 5years or so)

I am not willing to say where i am but if you're familar with the system, you know where i am. Thanks for the advise though.

I thought if you're able to save up a good sum and get GOOD CONTACTS wthin your service with the army, it might be some bargain...?

Not too familar with the system these days, but I think the contract terms nowadays to be beneficial enough to you is often long... That might be the main disadvantage that you could be facing...

You might like to visit Singapore Armed Forces for more advices...?

I think it depends on what you want to achieve in your life. There is a success method to determine what you should do, which is used by many successful people. You may try it. Very Happy

1. List down all your dreams and goals (without any fear or worry if you could achieve it or not)
2. List down all the things that you enjoy doing it
3. What is your strengths and weaknesses?

From the 3 points, you will be able to find your future career path.

I'm from private sector and doing sales. Here is my 2 cents about option B

1) How much you earn not = how hard you work. It depends on a few main factors, i.e. contacts, opportunities, market (which goes up and down), luck. It also depends on your job, mostly to do with commission based then you can achieve "How much you earn = how hard you work"

2) Setting up your own business firstly requires capital investment, 2ndly contacts and the planning and experience and know-how, so your "abilities" dun really come into the picture.

3) Banker/Broker needs certificate (which can be easily obtained depending), furthermore, you need the bank/firm to accept you first and not everyone can get the job (even you have 99% confidence in yourself in crossing the round of interview, there is always other factors to consider), meaning to say what you want might not = what you get. So risk is involved if you fail to get these type of jobs that you want and end up getting a fixed salary pay job
