An SMRT bus driver who was photographed pointing his
middle finger at a lorry driver yesterday (Dec 2) has been taken
off duty for further investigations by the bus operator.
Stomper Alan Yap, who is the lorry
driver, had sent in a photo of the bus driver making the rude
gesture at him.
Alan also shared the photo on Facebook, where it has since gone viral online with
more than 4,200 shares.
Stompers Nazri, Pang, Kàpitan, Benedict,
Randy, Jamaludin, Sng and Zhi Xiang also alerted
Stomp to the photo.
SMRT responded to the incident in a statement on its Facebook pageearlier today:
"We understand that there is a post circulating showing one of our
bus captains behaving badly. We apologise for this
incident. #SMRT takes a very serious view about such
bad behaviour.
"The bus captain has been taken off duty for further
investigations.
"This incident is certainly not representative of all the bus
captains who proudly serve with SMRT, and who have been receiving
compliments from you, our commuters."
According to The Straits Times, Alan had been travelling in
the middle lane on Lentor Avenue at about 10am on Wednesday when
the bus (service number 853) had tried to cut into his lane.
"He signalled and immediately tried to filter, so I had no time to
react and did not give way," said Alan.
"Even if he was unhappy that I failed to give way, how can he react
in such a vulgar manner when he's wearing the SMRT uniform?"
