i feel most fans will want shearer be their coach. too bad even shearer is too chicken to take over.

Saltiga SG

its really getting more and more difficult for the lower rungs teams these days, without the ECL there is no way they can compete with the bigger budget teams, also survival in EPL is so important as income from the TV rights is so huge between the EPL and Championship that makes the club chairman tigger happy once their team don’t perform and even then once the manager did well alot of slightly bigger clubs will try to headhunt them hence making it worst for the smaller team.

Saltiga SG

Shearer IMHO, is not ready to be a manager yet, he might have been a great player but without proving himself by getting a job in the lower division with a lesser team i doubt he'll be willing to risk his status in Newcastle if he fails to turn them around

Don't forget Kevin Keegan who managed the Magpies from 1992-97. Razz

The thing is that Shearer is the man his club needs. He is a Geordie lad, and his lifelong dream was to play for NUFC. He has the respect from the club's supporters and younger players.

nvr expect keegan could hold the job so long. Shocked

maybe newcastle need him back!

Saltiga SG

Shearer might be the choice of the supporters but whether he is ready for the job is another thing all together.. and i kind of have a feeling that he will not be willing to risk his status with the Geordies fans if he fail to bring them forward..

DrAlienology SG

expectations of newcastle are too high to be honest..

Fact: Alan Shearer is the man Newcastle wants.
Fact: Alan Shearer do not have the experience or know-how to succeed.

True, fans and the young players would look up to him, but tactical know-hows and experiences when the chips are down are the 2 more important factors in looking for a manager. Shearer has neither yet as a manager, and besides, Kevin Keegan would be a more suitable choice.
