They will definitely give a bulk of DDs to Sv 190... But SMRT does not have experience with DDs... Why add to the problems of 190... Better to try out on 963...

AntiDennisLance SG

Aiya why keep on seeing Enviro training buses at Yishun?Their break time is it?

Training for roll-out during SG100 celebrations....

Wont be in time for SG50.....

carbikebus SG

Yes makes sense coz even short services like 860 and 301 are not getting any bendies... so i feel clear indication that bendies might get slowly phased out.

Thats why i said before Yis should be under WL better..860 need to be under WL if wanna upgrade to DD..

If SBST didn't take back Sengkang it might have become the first ITH built for bendy buses.

Also, bendies would be better for routes like 96, 113 and several SBST feeders if conditions favour it.

Hi. I am curious. Just wondering, what is it about Articulated Buses that you like? In so many aspects, Double Decker buses is better. Any reason why you want Articulated buses on the routes in Seng Kang and on the routes you mentioned?

carbikebus SG

Imho articulate buses does perform well on short distance feeders(225,241 etc) only and not more than that in our land scarce Sg..Beside taking up slightly more space, our new ITHs doesnt favour articulate bus.Mid and long haul trunks should strictly use Double deckers no matter how Intratown type trunks theyre..However those feeders DDs should tuned up for more responsive acceleration due to the stop and go distance

TIB1234T SG

By the way, bendy takes more load than a DD eventhough it waste a bit of space...

113 does not get even a fleet add or crossover DD - and you feel resource constrained SMRT will add bendy to 113 (or even 113 is worth it??)

Hardly.. Both are about the same.

DD has 82 seats and around 35 standees

Bendy has 59 seats and around 65 standees

* From comfort point of view also, DD is bendy than so many squishing and standing inside a bendy.

just go ask those sv190 pax...do they prefer standing in the bendies or sitting on upper deck of double decker.. in reality, bendies also never carry full load... the last carriage alway got lots of space...

sgwiki even state that bendies have 90 standing capacity.... maybe this happen when there is a competition of trying to squeeze the most no of pax in the bus...

the O405s, O405G you actually can see pax filling up. but not so for A22s and taros. whenever there is a SD on 169, more often i see pax leaving a space at the rear than pax filling up. i rather have the O405s or OCs on 169 than the A22. eventually 169 would be like 190, full fleet DD.

SBS9C SG

Mentality issue I think. The older buses have more seats, so people wouldn't mind standing for a while as there is a higher chance of getting a seat after few stops. As for low entry buses like the OCs and KUBs, the area at the back is kinda like the older buses, so those who take for shorter distance would not move to the back, and those who want a seat would stand at the rear portion. As for low floor buses like the A22s and O530s, the aisle at the rear is quite small, hence people would tend to leave it empty so it won't be too much of a hassle for those alighting.

What's your point here? Are you supporting my earlier statement on DDs being more comfortable... I think that's what you are saying... but from your tone "just go ask those sv 190pax"... I can't make out.

And I don't need to ask sv 190 pax.. coz it is common sense. For such a long route, people would want to sit on upper deck, relax, enjoy the view than scramble standing in a crowded bendy.

BusAnalayzer SG

It's so funny. When DDs started being deployed on 169, some bendy crazy fans started talking about how DDs are useless on 169 and upper deck never gets full. They prefer standing or left behind in a crowded SD than see a DD deployed. That's how biased some people here are in regards to their love for bendy.

supporting your statement that DD is better/more comfortable...

yes it is common sense to you and me, but there are certain groups of ppl who insisting that bendies are better/carry more loads and even post that they saw SMRT DDs that are full of pax on lower deck and with 30 over empty seats on the upper deck...

lemon1974 SG

the rear trailer portion alway have emtpy spaces...

randomguy10 SG

I take 190 regularly and yes DDs are great. Definitely more comfortable than the Bendys, though efficiency not as good. But the situation of 190 is different from other short routes etc. For 190, people want comfort cos long ride so DD is good. But for short routes and feeders, I will still choose to use Bendy because in those services, people are more interested in the speed and efficiency to get home/MRT than comfort. Yes you give me a double deck bus so comfortable but I need to sit for like 10mins longer than standing on a bendy whats the point? 169 is fine with bendys or DDs because there are ppl who travel LD and SD. And so in such a situation, its better to just use DDs and save bendys for use on a service that is not as suitable for DD.

So in summary, DD is more comfortable no doubt, but Bendys have higher efficiency and are faster. Deploy according to which factor is more impt for each service, as long as our land scarce sgp allows it.

Acx1688 SG

SMRT has said in prev press statements, in e near future, DDs are for trunk service, bendies for bendys as they realise passengers do not wish/are not inclined to go to upper deck for short intra town trips...

So DDs for SMRT feeders are NO GO
