My baby caught a cold!

The other day some of my relatives came over to see my 2 weeks old baby and one of them was just recovering from a cold. After the visit my baby caught the cold! He has problems sleeping and keeps crying because he has difficulties sleeping because of the cold. Please give some advise on how to cure his cold!!!

should not hv this problem so early as the baby is still relatively immune... hv u been bf or formula?

baby crying may mean alot of things.... but i can say he's definately feeling very unwell if he keeps on crying...

I lost my elder bro to such an incident... heh.. Crying or Very sad just wanna say there's still a small possibility that it may be life threatening.. so don't risk it....

go c doc. coz if delay, can develop into severe phlegms and cough.
phlegms can choke and cause breathing probs.

Yes. The lungs of a baby have not been fully developed yet. If you let his cold persist, it may do irreversible damange to your child, or long term damage to his respiratory system.. I advise you admit your child at a hospital.. preferably KK..

I am also baffled why at such young age (2 weeks old) he can catch the cold. Apparently, now his nose is stuck with mucus and he has difficulty breathing. Just today, one side of the nostril is cleared from mucus, the other side is still stuck, which is still causing breathing problems. I have called the doctor and he said that as long as the baby is not having fever, he is still cureable at home, no need to go hospital. I am going to monitor him for another day and see the progress.

Yup he is in shanghai with me now, and winter is just starting. Lots of people getting ill. And one of my relatives passed the cold to my baby!!! Crying or Very sad

Winter isn't a good time for BBs and old people .... and Shanghai isn't the most pristine of cities eh ... perhaps it's a good idea to get a humidifier and an air ionizer for the BB's room ? ....

Yes I have a humidifier and I have been keeping the room humidity at a range of 50% to 60%

I will keep monitoring my baby's health tonight, and if things doesn't get better tomorrow morning, I will go straight to the hospital.

BTW, how do you know I am in Shanghai???

Bear this in mind. A newborn should never be exposed to any adults/children for at least 30 days after birth as his immune system is still weak and needs to be developed.

If this is the peak cold/flu season, avoid the common hospital if you can simply because there're going to be plenty of germs, bacteria, viruses floating in the hospital and bringing your baby there exposes him/her to them.

If there's a hospital/specialist clinic for babies or pregnant mums, go for that.

The principle is the less (sick) people you bring your newborn to, the safer it is for him/her.

What you said has a point. My baby now only has the common cold, if i were to bring him to the hospital, he will be exposed to other illnesses! Ok, i will cure his cold naturally at home. thanks for your advise!

Oh, and a lesson to everyone who just had a new born. Never allow the baby to come in contact with anyone for at least 30 days from birth. I learnt it the hard way.... Crying or Very sad

INDEED. Make sure that those visiting people are not sick and don't let them anyhow touch sensitive places like nose or stick a finger into the mouth of baby.

Still an advise for you to bring your little one to the hospital for a checkup. I had a god son. He passed away when he's 5mths old and before that everything seemed fine until he started crying non-stop for no apparent reasons and there's no physical illness or symptons that he's sick or not feeling well. There's no fever, eat as per normal but just cry alot. The crying started three days before he passed on. According to the doc's report on the death, my little god son had acute lung infection and it got him way before the sypmtons can show. Reason why the infection kill him before any symptons show? Easy...babies organs are not yet fully function well and the organs are still weak and easily get infected. The fact is they already am feeling uncomfortable just that they can only cry.

Don't risk if you love your kid. I'm serious. This is not a sob story I make up to make you birng your kid to the doc. For such a wonderful little life who can only cry to show discomfort, please don't risk. My god kid would have been 8yr old now if he's still around. It don't cost you much to bring your kid to the doc but it'll cost you your entire life if anything happens to him.
