Depends on the context, I'd say, though it might be unfair to
label a relationship that couldn't work out without sex as without
"true love".
But first, why would a couple not have or even want sex in their
relationship? If done with the proper frame of mind and if both
parties knew perfectly well what they were in for, sexual
intercourse could be a fun-filled and enjoyable activity. Is there
a particular reason why one or both parties did not wish to have
sex?
If it is for moral reasons like the girl did not wish to be
exploited and wanted to save herself till after marriage, then the
relationship could work out without sex. Lots of relationships have
worked out like that.
If it is for physiological or psychological reasons like the girl
was frigid or the guy was impotent, then things may get more
complicated. Provided there is no exploitation involved, physical
intimacy does help to strengthen the relationship. A sexless
relationship would probably demand a great deal of restraint and
understanding from the normal party, and would inadvertently place
not a small amount of pressure and strain on the other party as
well. That is perhaps the reason why many couples with such
problems are often recommended to seek professional help.
Not to say it is impossible, but the sexless relationship would
probably have to be so strong and mature that it has transcended
the need for sexual intimacy. Such relationships though, would be
found more often among silver-haired aged couples, who probably
wouldn't be asking such questions in the first place.
