There is a fine line of distinction between being devoted and
being clingy.
Is your friend still sending SMSes to the girl?
Is he still coaching the girl in her studies?
Does he still like her after 8 years?
The girl probably didn't want your friend as a boyfriend, but she
didn't want to lose him as a "good friend" either. So it's up to
your friend to choose whether he wants to move on, or to stick
around and pray for the day to come when she discovers the person
she has been looking for is just under her nose all along.
