As for whether is he the kind of guy who doesn't take a
relationship seriously.. he's a faithful bf. once he's set his
heart on you, he'll stick to you unless you do something to make
him lose that faith ( which i did).
However.. when he tells me bout how he's getting on with his
present gf, i have a feeling that it may just be an empty wait. as
in, nothing might come out of it.

If your ex-boyfriend is really a faithful man, then you should
move on. It is unlikely he would destroy the current girlfriend's
faith in him to be with you. Because this time, his heart is set on
her. Maybe he was just consoling you when he 'set' the date, a la
"My Best Friend's Wedding" style, with you.
I wouldn't probe on what you did to make him lose that faith in
you, but here's hoping you have learned your lesson and wouldn't do
it again to the next guy who comes along. See open...
