It is always difficult to practise what we preach, especially
when it comes to advice on relationships.
Even if we -- being involved in our own relationships -- could
detach ourselves momentarily and follow the advice we give others,
our assessment of the situation may not be correct in the first
place because our emotions and attachments would already have
clouded our judgement. For example, we as outsiders could coolly
tell that a girl to leave a guy as, based on her description of his
actions, he obviously is not suitable for her.
However, when we are in the shoes of the girl, it is usually
difficult to assess the situation and describe it objectively in
our posts because we'd already have feelings for the guy. There are
things, moments and passions shared with him that we'd not have
mentioned in the forum, but would have unconsciously tampered with
our rational thinking, making it difficult for us to focus on his
flaws and apparent incompatibility.
And that is where the beauty of forums like this comes in. It is
forums like this that would always ensure a ready pool of
third-party observers to help us see when we are blind.
