hummm.... so far my parents are tolerant of my choices, 'N' level, 'O' level, kicked out of school, undergrads, uni grads, diploma holders, all dated before. as long as they are not bums or crooks, they leave the choice to me. education level is not so important loh, more important is the chemistry. but if u feel that u should upgrade yourself just to suit your gal, go ahead, that's wat one of my guy fren did (btw, he got dump after he got his degree Rolling Eyes )

On one side of the things, the girl's mom may seem to be unresonable... But try puting yourself in the shoes of the mother, having to raise a child is not easy and as a parent, Im sure most of you guys would hope that your daughter is in safe hands. Just think about this,

Which parent wishes to see his/her daughter to slog the whole day just to make ends meet?

Therefore, most parents would prefer a guy with a steady income as their prospective son-in-law. Having a good education doesn't gurantee steady income, but its definitely a good start for better things to come!

over protective liao la. daughter already a wrking adult man. for me, i wuldnt date a person who allows others to control her lidat(until such an age!!!). anyway, i think highly unlikely for the guy to do much if the gal’s attitude towards ‘being controlled’ doesnt change.a lot depends on gal i suppose.

one thing i dun understand about the mum is y she always wanna interfere in my relationship with her daughter, i already seldom see my gf but yet the mum still tells her not to keep in contact with me everynight, the mum even made my gf cry and keep saying she is dumb and naive, is there someone i can call to go to their house to counsel the bored mother who always attacks on my poor gf?

you have to understand that every parent have different ways of expressing their concern for their child.

most parents express their love and concern by being nice and fair to their child. some believe that by totally controlling their child, it's the best way to protect and care for them. others express their concern by scolding and punishing them into submission.

you must have heard before the chinese phrase, 'to hit is to love, to scold is to adore'? (not very sure about the exact phrase...sorry)

in this case, her mother thinks it's best for her daughter if she has total control over her life. this way, she can prevent any kind of harm from coming to her daughter. her mother might have been through alot of emotional pains during her early years, and now she's determined not to let it happen to her daughter.

there are two ways for you to handle this matter:

1) choose to avoid the problem and run away. that is, if you're not planning on marrying her.

2) you have to gain the trust of her mother first. right now, she's treating you like her enemy because she doesn't trust that you will treat her daughter good.

you must find some way to appease her and let her realise that you aren't the kind of person she believed to be.

i must tell you that this will take up ALOT of your time, effort, and patience. but it will definitely be worthwhile.
