the probem is, soccer is not a sport where u can survive on. thats why all the parents don't want their kid to go for FT soccer.

with no passion, even got talent also no use. so they end up buying some FT.

~Personal Opinion~

Most of Singapore soccer is based on the malay population which does not even number more than 1 million.

MBT failed to set up a plan to enthuse the Chinese to take up football seriously.

A failure right from the start.

Talk like an adult if you want people to see you as one.

stellazio SG

population size should not be used as an excuse. in the recent world cup, there was a country with an even smaller population then ours who qualified right if i'm not wrong.

Rock^Star SG

That should be Trinidad & Tobago. Population of 1.3 million.

We don't have a football culture like theirs. We should at least try to make it up in numbers and also introduce a football culture at the same time......something which will never happen in paper-chase crazy S'pore.

one problem tis country face is wrong use of reward, while poor countries like malaysia, thailand n vietnam playing for country n passion, our government only use money as reward to drive our players.

this kinda thing should start from young, n not importing foreigners to do the job for us.

stellazio SG

yeah u can say cause T&T is not so developed, so the people can rely on soccer whereas in singapore we can't live on soccer.

oh well, we'll probably need some club to start an academy here to get things rolling.

CKeer SG

If i'm not wrong, Most of the S.League clubs do have youth teams. Laughing
Cos i saw some kids wearing Tampines Rovers' jersey walking out of the stadium last week. Mr. Green

In my opinion, totally eliminate the Foreign Talent Scheme. Concentrate on nurturing our very own stars. Get trials for them in European leagues(Ajax and PSV sounds good to me and they produced the most number of talents. ).

Cheers.

Foreign Talent scheme? We have to raise our ranking before we attract any world class players. Who would wanna play for Singapore when we are always languishing at 100 plus rank?

We need to adopt the European mentaility. Children have to start becoming enthusiastic about football once they are born. Every kid's childhood dream is to be the next van Basten, Matthaeus, Gullit, Lineker etc and if they don't make it, they just carry on with other professions.

But what's happening now? Parents send their kids for ballet, piano, pre pre pre school, swimming, guitar, violin. Football, nobody does....except our malay s'poreans.

stellazio SG

no, i don't mean our own local s league clubs. who the heck wana join them anyway. i mean some european clubs with more prestige.. Laughing

the registration for the exhibition number is: 6340-9517

DuanChengFeng SG

Make our local footballers multi-million bucks earner 1st. no money no talk. no money no motivation to play well football. make footballer around the same status as lawyers, doctors etc..

lalaTearz SG

T&T gt dwight yorke…singapore dun even haf a fandi ahmad now..how to make it to world cup 2010….

Refugees SG

Yes. They have youth team. S-League --> Prime League --> U-18 --> U-16.
I'm the captain of one of the U-18 clubs but to be true the standard is low. My club only have 3 chinese and thats rare to see. Other clubs all malay or indian. If singapore soccer want to go to a higher level i think first they need to attract chinese to play.

monoslayer SG

tats true. hope they dun b like robben who dives but nv got any penalties. Laughing
