i dunno wat u mean by give in. as in who will talk to who first? it depends on how much u care. if you care enuff, you will make the first move to talk to the other person first. no need to apologize or anything, just say sth like we shud get together for a talk to clear things up or sth like dat. then only decide who is at fault.

True, unfortunately people sometimes have problem saying the word 'sorry'. Its easy for me cos I do it often Razz but for those with the so call pride/ego, it might just make them start another arguement again.

I will respect a person more if he/she apologies too but I don't expect everyone to do it immediately. Usually if I am given enough time to cool down my emotions, I can figure out if I am in fault or even partially in fault. After which I would most likely apologies but there are times I can feel the pride/ego at work. I realize if I can feel it so can others especially when their emotions are still high. So the sorting out might take time.
