Hi everyone, posting on behalf of my colleague

my fren here have been courting this girl since March this year. it was a on and off courtship. First 2 months, girl was only lukewarm to his advances. he tried dating her out a few times but always kana "fly kite" last min. So Fren here kinda of pissed and actually moved on. Anyway he was posted to US for 2 months. When he's back in May, he sorta missed her, and SMS her whether she remembers him. Got positive response and they actually went on date. Again they went out a few times. Then girl left singapore to visit her family back in Hongkong. Also she has some medical condition which needed attention back home. All this while, my fren received many SMS from her, supporting her emotionally especially during her medical examination. She came back in Aug. They continue seeing each other. However, there is suspicious tell tale signs. Sometimes this girl would say cannot meet for 2 weeks, becoz mother came to visit her. sometime say got auntie visit so cannot see each other. Anyway, the girl accepted my fren as bf last month. But here comes the big one. One sunday, supposed to meet for a show. She called last min to say her grandmother is in critical condition and now she is in airport flying off. well my fren here console her and ask her to call him once she touch down. 1 week passed, no news. Fren got worried, called her best fren whether can get in touch with her. 2 days later, she called him saying that many things to attend too, dun worry, she's fine. 2 weeks later, still not back yet. getting suspicious. Fren here decided to ask her best friend out.
Hinted at her best fren whether is there a third person involved? My fren went on to explain that if there is someone else, he would backed off as it is less painful to do it now. Her best fren assured him tat there is no third party involved. 3 days ago, fren knocked off early, nothing to do, drove pass her home, and actually saw her with another guy walking out of her home. My fren now is quite devastated, what should he do?

But point is she lied about being overseas. And also my fren managed to trailed her that day, coincidently. She and the guy boarded a taxi. Drove pass my fren's car, so he decided to trail them. Saw girl stroke guy's hair in the taxi. Lost them midway; waited for them back at her house. 1 hour later appeared. Guy carrying a lot of plastic bags following the girl back the apartment. My fren left after seeing that, feeling dejected and betrayed.

So what's the analysis? Could my fren be the third party unknowingly? (my tots)

The girl was probably toying with your friend’s feelings. If you are a good friend, persuade him to get out of the r/s ASAP to avoid any more damage. Else he will only sink deeper and deepr, and eventually he will be unable to get out of the abyss.

don't put all eggs in 1 basket. invest in a few girlfriends/boyfriends and a couple more spare back-up tyres. why give up a whole forest for 1 tree? some will work out, some won't. and some fall out later. but who cares? next. settling down is boring unless you have a mission to pass down your family name or if you need someone else for financial security

My INSTINCT tells me her she's probably up to no good.... But your friend has better try to find out MORE or talk things out with her (which might not be very useful at this point)...?

It will be difficult to find out more, maybe only blatant trailing. They just started so toking to her will not be useful as you already mentioned. My fren is quite serious abt this relationship, so telling him to back-off may not be so easy. The interesting part is why the elaborate scheme to keep my fren in the dark. She still calls him like once a week to assure him tat everything is fine back "home". I told my fren to just wait out and see wat happens. If continue this way; then have to let go. Howabt hinting at her best fren? (they stay together)

Though might not be a good method, I'll still think the best way would be to talk to her about it and have things exposed in the open for discussion..? But he must be mentally prepared that he might have to give up the relationship..? Well.. In a sense, if it happens, it HAPPENS... No point deceiving yourself...?
