when you type format c:, are you just opening a command prompt window after booting up to your windows screen?

if so, you can't format as the windows is still running and you can format it...
you need a bootable disc to format your comp and make sure you can install your windows after that...

Hi all,
yes, i have a bootable XP installation disc.

I tried to boot from it (press del at startup to enter blue screen and selected booting from CDrom), the screen subsequently ask me if i wanted to install or repair win XP.

If the abv is bootable, then how do i go about formatting C drive and reinstalling the win XP??

I suspect one of the reason why my Comp is giving much probs is due to worms and trojan clogging up everything..

A normal over right install.. WILL NOT wipe out things.. But things which are in your MY DOCUMENTS and C drive MAY be lost.. Depending on what windows has repaired for you.

After you have installed Windows XP, make sure you have a valid virus security installed in your comp..

patch up ur pc by going to windows update..

Actually, i had norton and this AVG virus prog...
uninstalled them coz i couldnt pin point the root of the prob.

You should format the c: drive during the your WinXP installation.

*You cannot format c: drive when the windows is running.*

It will run your dos prompt. Since you are just installing WinXP, you probably dun need to use it.
