After some services move to Joo Koon, the service will
automatically get extended to Boon Lay
The Taman Jurong Bus Terminal is 2.1 km straight-line distance
away from Jurong East Bus Interchange, while Boon Lay Bus
Interchange is 2.6km straight-line distance away. Meanwhile, the
eastern-most bus stop at Jurong West Street 42 is 2.8km
straight-line distance away from Boon Lay while the western-most
bus stop at Jurong West Street 42 is 3.6km straight-line distance
away from Jurong East. Therefore, in terms of straight-line
distance, should the route be extended to Boon Lay, it should be
extended from Jurong West Street 42.
Furthermore, there are more bus routes at Boon Lay Bus
Interchange serving the Taman Jurong zone than the Hong Kah zone;
the bus connectivity to Boon Lay Bus Interchange from Hong Kah is
weaker than the bus connectivity from Taman Jurong. Hence, it would
only be fair that the new BSEP bus route serves Hong Kah first,
before serving Taman Jurong, when it is extended to Boon Lay Bus
Interchange.
Service 49 serves residents staying in Taman Jurong and Hong Kah
- both are sub-zones of Jurong West Planning Area. Hence, it would
be logical to extend the route to Boon Lay Bus Interchange as that
is part of the town centre for Jurong West, along with Jurong Point
and the Frontier Community Place.
While extending the route to Boon Lay Bus Interchange from
Jurong West Street 42, LTA should take this opportunity to improve
and enhance the bus connectivity to Taman Jurong from Wenya and, if
possible, from Yunnan (Gek Poh and Nanyang), which currently do not
have any bus link to Taman Jurong. Perhaps it should do it while
taking the opportunity to relieve load off bus routes 99 and 185,
which complement each other and both experience high crowding
levels during peak periods. Still, it must try to ensure that the
travelling time to Boon Lay Bus Interchange from Jurong West Street
42 is within 35 minutes (current travelling time from Jurong West
Street 42 to Boon Lay Bus Interchange) or shorter.
It would be ideal if the journey on service 49 from Jurong West
Street 42 to Boon Lay Bus Interchange is around 25 minutes, similar
to bus journeys to the interchange from Jurong West Street
91(3.4km), 81(2.9km) and 72(3.6km). In short, the distance the bus
travel from Jurong West Street 42 to Boon Lay Bus Interchange
should be around 3.3km (+/- 0.3km).
