probably cos some of these ppl (i would say most of the time gals) are too obsessed with material possessions. or maybe they had bad experiences with poverty and hence would like to live luxuriously. or they may simply be insecure. or maybe they just don’t know what they want, so they looked for the most obvious and direct solution.

Requirements are subjective. Why do they have this preference? Well, I may like beef, but doesn't mean my best friend likes it too. The demand will still be there, it's just that people wouldn't be able to afford to pay the price only.
