reallyneedurhelp SG i sent a sum of $150 to my friend through POSB's funds transfer as he told me he could help me get a mobile phone of my choice but he lacked cash. After that... he told me that he had been conned and that the phone he had bought was actually a dummy set. He refused to go to the police quoting that nobody will believe him as he had tattoos all over his right arm. Can i do anything about this? Please help! Thanks
sillyme SG just go to the police.. if your friend’s case is legitimate, the police surely look into it..
jOhO SG thank goodness it’s not lagging now.. if not i woulda waited 20 mins for the page to load for THIS??
Devil1976 SG Ever occur to you that you might have been conned by your friend? How close a 'friend' is this person to you...? Does he intend to return you the money then...? Have him report the matter to the police, or I'll suggest you report him to the police? How he intend to settle the matter? You mean he never check the HP when he bought it...? Did he tell you where he'd bought it and the details?
reallyneedurhelp SG well.. i went to the police yesterday night.. and today... he passed me a phone... t108 that is.. its has been locked by its operator (which means i cannot use it anywhere outside China) and the phone is in no working condition. yea... he said he was in a hurry so he never check e phone properly... and he bought it frm these 2 strangers thru the net. i told him i wldnt mind if we split the loses.. but he said that he is totally broke now and will only do so until he gets a job.. and even quoted that i have 4 jobs and shld be earning enough.. i really feel very lost. he did get cheated. but its my money..
reallyneedurhelp SG is this a civil law? and if i want something to be done.. i have to fork out money for a lawyer? or.. anything that i can do? anybody know? and is it true that if we do lodge a police report together and i tell the police that my friend got cheated and he got a wrong set.. the police wont do anything at all?
tOoTy`gEr SG nope.. u cant sue him. yup, tis is under civil law. he told u abt e deal, u makes e offer to buy e fone, n he accepts e offer. so he is not liable for ur losses. i tink u cant do anything unless u can settle with him urself...
boy in blues SG time to call in the cops, they should investigate and bust their ring and you get compensated.
Devil1976 SG Just a rather unrelated question. Are you a local? As for your option... I'll suggest SPLIT the LOSS if you can. Propose to your friend and see what's his reaction? Tell him you don't mind if he's broke now and you'll give him time. Ask him when can he return the money. Meanwhile.... Not meaning anything in particular... But just stay wary of him... He MAY or may not have conned you... But once bitten, should know how to make the necessary adjustments to protect yourself.....?
