That is not a usual practice. It's all ultimately depending on that person's religious faith. Certain families are really religious and they want they children preferably find someone of the same religion.

But at this era, I guess you can hardly can find such a situation.

No standard rules. You can marry whom u wish. But then to avoid those inter religon kinda of conflict, most preferable for people of same religon to marry. Not only for christianity but accross the board.

You can marry with someone of any religion but you'll have to think about what religion will your children carry next time ? A Christian will definitely want their children to take up the same religion but if you're a Buddhist, will you give way ? Smile

dun let “religion” bind u… we can see a lot of cases around us in Spore that true love can still survive under different background.. it depends on the respect between one another… dun let other pple’s opinion affect you … who are they to judge or interfer..? they are not the one in love.. and are not in the right position to comment…u r the one choosing your partner, dun be affected by pple’s opinions.

If you're a Buddhist, your wife is a Christian and your wife insist that your childrens to take up Christianity but you want your children to be Buddhist, what will you do ?

You wouldn't want your children to be a free-thinker I suppose ? Religion do play a role in assuring someone's thinking and moral attitute.

marriage is a relationship. so we as God's creations do need to establish our relationship with God first; since it was God who is the creator of heavens and the earth.
as one party is already a Christian, it will be his duty to share Christ's gracious grace with the bride to be, so that she too can share the joy and blessing that is there waiting for her, just as he has already received his, through his trust and faith in God through Jesus.

usually is yes, christian kinda marry christian as well....but not really practical in this world lar...

but mostly the kids will become christian later..

their mom was christian, married a buddhist, convert to buddhist but then send his 2 sons(my frens) to church since young .... SMART sia... 1 gone, but 2 came in.... Mr. Green

i don’t mind my kids to become a christian if i am a buddist and my wife is a christian. but i cannot tolerate if they don pay respect to the ancestors. i have seen it with my own eyes wen i went to a funeral of a fren’s grandfather. one of my fren’s cousin, who is a christian, refuse to go into the funeral area, and also refuse to touch any joss sticks, not to mention offering it to his grandfather. he just stand at the extreme far end outside the funeral area, and showing us disgusting n impatient face while waiting for his parents who is inside the funeral area. some of my fren’s ah beng cousin nearly went over n wack him but due to the respect of their decease grandfather, they pretend not to see. any christian here also do the samething like my fren’s cousin? any comment?

when my grandfather passed away, almost all the children n grandchildren never offer joss sticks. Everyone in my maternal family is a christian, even my grandmother... except my parents. So they were the only one who offered joss stick, we did pay our respect though. well, your fren's cousin is wrong not to pay his respect but wat is the big deal abt joss stick? ain't we suppose to be filial when they are alive? why wait till they passed away, then burn big house, joss sticks, joss papers... Confused

Joss sticks have nothing to do with religion. It has to do with old chinese beliefs. Its part of chinese custom, just like giving red packet during Chinese New Year. So whats wrong with joss sticks? My dad, who is a christian, did offer joss sticks when my grandfather died.

for buddhist side, it's possible, because buddhists dun mind...

but for christian side, even if the person you are going to marry(christian) doesn't mind, his/her church mates, and perhaps the WHOLE CHURCH will mind, and will try as much as possible to psycho him/her into letting go of this r/s of yours...

either that, or they DEMAND that you change your religion to christianity... then they allow you to carry on....

think for urself what u want loh....

well, depends on how religious dat person is i guess... if he know his bible well enuff, offering joss sticks is definitely out of question. wat's wrong with joss sticks? how i know? ask kamper lah... he post his question dat way.. so i ask him wat's wrong with joss sticks loh... maybe his joss sticks no fragrance.... hahaha Wink aiyoh... religion is always a sensitive topic... sighz!
