Hi,

Help! What does a real man means? This is absolutely confusing when a girl says she wants a "real" man? Is it character? Or inner strength or a solid body?

This is funny too, i say "want someone simple". The guys whom i speak to will nod their head in agreement, but the girls will look at dazed and confused.

Klactovak SG

Why not i learn to become one and you tell me. Wink

Real man not easy to be.. as for wat i think, u must be intelligent, man-ly as in like a hunk.. since looks cannot be altered unless surgery, i think ur behavior shd be extreme gentlemanly to make up if u not yandao.. then hor, education level or rather u must be knowlegable.. so u see, it's not easy to be a real man!!!!

joanne from ur decription it seems like the 'real man' is not so real after all Smile

let's see...
1)Hunk (or at least well built)
2)Intelligent
3)Successful
4)Macho yet Gentlemanly
5)Matured and Wen3 Zong4 (i think this is VERY important)
6)Romantic?
7)Witty & Humourous

wah tough lah~
me thinks the male lead character from the korean drama 'zai jian nu zhu buo' fits the bill pretty well though.

Titanus SG

Intelligence I agree, but looks make a real man? As for the gentlemanly part, as long as not extreme can liao.

If you want to define a real man, it should be:

1) Pleasant Personality
2) Maturity
3) Gentleman

Anything else is a bonus ( ie. car, money, yandao look )

:p

What do you think? :p

I think a real man must be truthful to himself and to others.

remaining true to his ownself and not be a person without backbone.

to deal with rotten people and close friends in a proper way. to know what love and compassion is.

gets the job done and not whine about silly things. to be a pillar for everyone to see. remain strong when his heart has been broken and shattered to pieces.

to smile in the face of adversity and remain positive that these things shall pass.
to have a strong faith in himself.

to be confident of his ability but not brag about them. to see people for what they are.... i think i go write my own list. too bad, you have to discover for yourselves. :p

Different pple different views, tt's y I said it is the man u made out to be. All traditional thoughts abt wat a man shud be is not really useful.

then, what do you think a man should be? heehee... instigate you a little. :p

sakaratulz SG

the most impt thing is just b ureself. doesnt matter abt other's opinion of u

Klactovak SG

i don't think it works this way, you know. let's say a person is a lazy bum, he's born like this and he's true to himself. he's still a bum! others' opinion of him don't matter but he's still a bum.

i'm talking about character building not about being true to one's original character. part of it is but mostly not. it's how you measure up to a set of ideals NOT having the standards lowered to fit one's personality.

sakaratulz SG

i heard this from somewhere...goes like this, i think:
personality is wat u think u r
reputation is wat pple think u r
character is who u really r.

to live is evil...=)

Klactovak SG

so a balanced person will be at peace with his character and personality because they're the same. but a REAL man will be one who's character and personality fit a set of ideals of a REAL man.

per·son·al·i·ty (pûrs-nl-t)
n. pl. per·son·al·i·ties
The quality or condition of being a person.
The totality of qualities and traits, as of character or behavior, that are peculiar to a specific person.

char·ac·ter (krk-tr)
n.
The combination of qualities or features that distinguishes one person, group, or thing from another. See Synonyms at disposition.

i think what you heard is not really accurate because according to the dictionary. character and personality are used inter-changeably. :p

sakaratulz SG

sometimes, words of wisdom dont really get their meaning from dictionaries only.

Klactovak SG

The quote is not exactly words of wisdom... really. If you want, i can tear it apart and show you the many flaws in what you heard. sounds impressive but nothing of wisdom in there. sorry.

sakaratulz SG

no apologies needed cos this is just wat i heard b4. mayb not words of wisdom but words of encouragement? either way it doesnt matter...=)

there is no fixed set of guidelines on wat a real man shud be. It is the different mindset, the different culture, the different religion that has the views.

Every man is shaped by his upbringing, surroundings and acquaintances.

Hey! You're sitting on the fence. used to do that when i was doing my general paper but it's deeper than that. to say there's no fixed guidelines is like having no opinions. and a man with no opinions is either very very enlightened or neither here nor there. a man with divers mind... cannot cut it, you know.

c'mon tell what do you think. not some mumbo jumbo like this. hahahahaha... :p
