Tao Li finally clinched a 'first' gold for swimming in 24 years for the republic. A fantastic result.

Swimming has been carefully nurtured by the SSC over many years and it's finally good to see some results. In the past, getting to the finals was the objective and i always felt it was way too modest. With our facilities and talent, it should have been directed to more demanding targets to spur us higher.

Hmm, anyway, most of them representing Singapore are FTs.

Why bother setting up a sports school when in the end you're just gonna get someone from China (Who cannot get into their "first team") to represent you?

Just look at the Table Tennis team. From the coaches to the players. How many are Singapore-born Singaporeans? Hmm....

I don't feel so. Getting to the finals is an accomplishment, considering how tough the competition is.

For swimming, I feel our local talent is getting old. Most of them are in their 20s and their prime. By the next game, they would have hit early 30s and some will be nearing 30 years old. Compared with other countries swimmers, we definitely can't match.

Unless we groom more local swimmers... otherwise swimming will go the way of using FT as well.

at the way China is winning the medals, I don't even think it is worthwhile to hold these games...

we may as well have olympics.. Asian Games is like a platform for China to perform. No purpose to SGP at all.

If you say we are sending our teams for exposure, I bet our soccer team got the most... why not our water-polo?

if we ever go back to plain old Singapore Singaporeans (SS) playing these sports, do we think we would fare any better?
considering we got bodybuilding, sailing and bowling, performing, and we just need to add more sports with SS.
