I've just changed my spark plug to the "Denso Iridium" kind, I think that is the brand. Cost me S$25. Must admit that I was very pleased with the performance increase.

You say that changing the air filter too would help. Sounds interesting. Now if I only know where to do the "upgrades" that you mentioned.

Firstly I change my engine oil every 1,000 Km without fail, synthetic oil. Before run in I change every 500 Km.

I changed my spark plug out of curiosity, for your information it was around 2,000 Km plus minus.

Dunno about u guys but I was told by my lao jiao riding friends to change oil like 3000km+ leh.... but see u ppl like very on... change around 1000+ so wats the correct practice?

maybe they're running in.. advisable to change at shorter intervals when you're running in...

frankly speaking, the gears get rough very easily, even when i was using CASTROL RS, about 1000+km it started to get rough liao...
but normally ppl withstand the roughness to about 3000km then they go change it... or else u be wasting ur money. my fren say as long stil can change gear ok liao.... actually for us 2 strokers, we dun need to use fully synthetic or very gd brand 4T for our gear oil, cos it does not lubricate the piston at all, mainly lubricates the gears n gear box onli. but for 4 strokers its different......

Both my seasoned riders friends and shop's mechanic advised me to change regularly around 1,000 Km.

I was subsequently advised to change spark plug every 4,000 to 5,000 Km.

I feel it is savings on BOTH engine parts and fuel efficiency. But if you intend to upgrade soon well I guess it is mostly up to you.

Personally I am able to tell a performance boost after an engine oil and/or spark plug change on my humble 200 cc Phantom bike.

Finally I try to wash my bike at least once a week.

Now I am looking for a good mechanic to help me tune up my carburator. Heard that a finely tuned carburator improves engine performance from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle range. Which means that I am able to overtake with MORE power around 80 to 90 Km/h. Which might also mean I am able to get out of some bad situations better!

there is a brake fluid reservoir level indicator , once the level near the line, can go change liao... me changing soon oso Smile

i also wanna retune my carb leh.. that time after washing, my fuel consumption went up! from 27 to 24 kmperL.. i tink maybe too rich liao. for spark plug case, i stil not able to differentiate btw cheap or ex ones, me now using NGK gold, changing to denso iridium the next time. once any results proven, wil post it here again Smile

i saw in another forum that LAB got sell K&N air filter for phantom. i tink any other bike also can put one lar.. jus ask around any bike shop lor.. price should not be above 100 lor.. Smile

The K&N-type filter looks like a cone-shape metal gauzed of about 2inch tall. You can find them displayed in the shelf of this prominent bike accesories shop along Jln Besar (besides the hawker centre). Have a look

I think time is not a good gauge for changing spark-plug (or any other expandables). It depends on the frequency of your usage or whether you are the type who do a lot of fast pick-ups. As the owner of your bike, I'm sure you can tell if the firing power has slacken or if your sense any 'bubbly-bursting' effect when picking up, this means mis-firing or the spark-plug is not firing consistently. Time to change.

my fuel consumption has shot up recently!
last time it was about 27kmperL, now 24kmperL liao.. i dunno wat has caused this, but definitely not my style of riding, it has been consistent for the past few months.

jus wanna know any of these factors wil cause my bike to waste fuel:

1) fuel tap: last time i always shut it off when parking, now i bo chup..
2) premixing abit 2T inside fuel tank
3) fuel type: last time i using octane98, not octane95, seems to eat more fuel, thus not much savings
4) issit time to wash carb n change spark plug?

I would think all of the above. The most obvious should be the restrictors in the exhaust. If I am not mistaken it reduces the noise emission from the bike but at the cost of power.
