Mourinho pointed the finger at Barcelona's play-acting

Mourinho attacks Barca 'diving'
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hailed their "magnificent" Champions League draw against Barcelona - then launched an attack on the Catalan side's approach

He said after Didied Drogba's late equaliser in the 2-2 draw: "I'm very proud. It was a very powerful display."

But he added: "I think it is not easy for a referee to be a referee when the players are diving minute after minute.

"I think Frank Rijkaard is a lucky manager because his Barcelona stars are protected match after match."

Mourinho added: "I would like to be in his position, not coaching Barcelona because I love coaching Chelsea, but because his players are protected."

He said: "We are not far from finishing first in the group. It was a very powerful performance, it was magnificent.

"It was very difficult when we conceded an early goal but the team played with a lot of confidence."

Drogba scored with seconds left after it looked like former Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen had sent them to defeat when he put Barcelona 2-1 ahead.

Frank Lampard had equalised Deco's early goal, but Mourinho thought his players had been denied key decisions by referee Stefano Farina.

He said: "For me it looked like two penalties for us, but I have to give the doubt because I did not see it on television and the referee did not have the benefit of television."

Goal hero Drogba praised Lampard's contribution, adding: "He showed all his quality and is one of the best midfield players in the world."

Lampard himself was unimpressed with the performance of Farina, who booked 10 players - six of them from Chelsea.

He said: "He had a funny game to say the least - we could have had two penalties and lots of decisions went against us.

"But I don't want to talk about his performance, I want to talk about ours - we were the better team."

actually i think essien took a dive in the early stages of the game...well anyway i hate that motta, he seems to have the mentality that he is a superstar since he is in the barcelona team... Confused

ghimpheng SG

barcelona players go down @ the slightest touches and it really disgust me and there was once when Gujohnsen was injure and chelsea had to kick the ball out and the ref give the ball to one of the barcelona player and he refuse to give the ball back and kp the ref and finally after persuasion from the ref he kick the ball out for a throw in

Drogba bleed after being elbow by already yellow carded Motta but Motta did not get sent off

and i think the research that home team players do get more advantage is true

Chelsea had 1 solid penatly claim where Frank Lampard had a clear-cut chance to head the ball into the barcelona net but was take down by xavi i think and the ref say no penatly

Robben always created lots of chances but to fail to take any and Joe Cole is not back to his normal form yet.We weill be stronger if Joe Cole is back to his normal form

Chelsea boss Mourinho mocks Barcelona antics
tribalfooball.com - October 31, 2006

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho steamed into Barcelona last night after 90 minutes of theatrics from the European champs.
Mourinho was furious at Barca's diving and intimidation of Italian referee Stefano Farina.

He rapped: "There were players rolling around the pitch and a lot of yellow cards - and only one team contributed to that.

"It was not an aggressive game but, at times, there were seven or eight players around the referee urging him to give cards.

"It is not easy for him to be under that kind of pressure."

Barcelona skipper Carles Puyol hit back at Mourinho - by claiming that Chelsea had started it.

The Spain defender said: "It was Drogba and someone else who threw themselves to the floor first - I don't care what Mourinho says.

"Chelsea are an aggressive team."

And Barca midfielder Edmilson also had a pop at the Chelsea chief.

He said: "The worst thing about playing Chelsea is having to listen to Mourinho afterwards."

Mourinho slid on his knees pumping his fists after Drogba's 93rd-minute strike.

Barca boss Frank Rijkaard said: "Chelsea play hard though I was surprised by Mourinho's reaction to the goal.

"There was no abuse or insults and I have no complaints with Chelsea."

Ref Farina added SIX MINUTES of injury time at the end.

Rijkaard added: "The extra time was positive for Chelsea. But there is no sense talking about the referee now."

Chelsea skipper Terry slams "cynical" Barcelona
tribalfooball.com - November 01, 2006

Chelsea captain John Terry slammed "cynical" Barcelona after last night's 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho claimed the Spanish side had "dived minute after minute" and UEFA will have their hands full unpicking another night of controversy.

And Terry blamed the chaos on Barcelona's approach and weak refereeing.

He said: "Maybe Barcelona feel a little bit threatened by us. They were under pressure from their own fans going into the game after losing at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago.

"They are a great side but we are not too sure why they are so cynical. It is a shame when you see world class players trying to get others booked. They tried all game.

"They were waving cards in the referees' face and it is disappointing when he falls for it. He gave everything their way, but the lads stuck together right to the end. The result says an awful lot about us. We showed them what we are really like as a team.

"We have played well here in the last couple of years but last night, with the referee against us and everyone against us, we were the better side.

"I thought we deserved the win, but they are a lot more disappointed than us because they are struggling to qualify.

"There were quite a few things off the ball, especially in the first half, and sometimes the referee is going to miss it. That is what his assistants are for but he was not even speaking to them or going over to have a conversation to see if they saw anything."

Frank Lampard added: "I think you need a referee in these sort of games who can stand up and knows when a bit of contact is a foul and isn't. That is when the frustration comes in. A strong referee can cut that out straight away."

whatever it is, the games between these 2 are over, unless they meet again in the knockout phases…maybe next time mourinho might be gearing up against ac milan or real madrid?

iceFatboy SG

I would love to see Chelsea via Lyon.
How they play against a pacey and full of substance team?

to me, they are always the dark horse.
