Try and check the following...
1)Have your brake pads worn out?
- If your pads are still usable, try to use an air jet to blow away
the dusty remains on the pads. remember to blow the dust 'away'
from the calliper not 'into' the calliper. But change pads if it
has worn out.
...if problems still persist...
2)Have your brake fluid run out? check the following...
- Is there a leak in your brake cables? Change the cables if
there's a leak.
- Is the brake fluid grade correct? Change the brake fluid if wrong
fluid is used. (some experienced mechanics can tell the grade by
the fluid viscousity and colour)
- Has your brake cable started to expand beyond tolerable range?
Change the cables if this happens.
...if nothing wrong...
3)Check that your disc is not warped. Check the alignment. Though
problems regarding disc is unlikely, but still must check with a
dial gauge. If this occurs, then good luck. A disc is costly.
... if nothing wrong...
4)Remove your brake callipers and send for servicing. Most likely
your brake calliper piston is jammed. Don't worry, this is very
common. The whole servicing costs about $20/= Then if you decide to
change the brake fluid, you can consider the following...
a) Motul RBF
b) Rockoil 5.1
But of course these are more expensive. But if you don't intend to
go on race, you can use a normal dot 3/4 fluid like most NSR150SP
uses. I recommend unity motor at alexandra to do these servicing of
excel cycles (look for big boon) But be prepared to pay a liitle
more for their services.
Have a nice ride.
