can change engine oil ourselves?

me and jiaju from #RVF just changed our engine oil on our own last friday for the first time. his is RVF and mine is NSR125. wasn too hard lah if u know where your plug is and wat size socket u need.

but i would advise u to go motorshop and do it if u never seen it done on your bike b4. at least u know wat problems u would encounter.

lastly a little reminder... if u do it by urself, remember to remove the oil cap when draining the oil to prevent a vacuum created inside.

by right its a easy thing to do, but it wil dirty ur hands if not careful..
that time i went to motoshop n change..
the mech unscrew some part or wat, n then he take a plastic container n put below the 'hole' for the used engine oil black color one to flow out... finish oredi screw it back, n then open another cap n pour the new engine oil in...settle liao..
2b bike use normally less than 1 L of engine oil, coming close to 1 L like that lar...
so u go motoshop jus buy a bottle of 1L engine oil from them, they jus change for u, the remaining oil dunno wat they use for lar.. if u niao, then take back the remaining oil lor.. Smile

Juz find the sump plug and unscrew it, the oil will drain from there once you take out the screw.
It's a hex screw. For my SP, it near to the gear lever on the left side.

the box he is reffering to is anyt bucket, used givi box or even plastic bag to store the used engine oil

if u can jus park ur bike directly on top of a sewer n jus let the stuff flow in

take note, different bike use different capacity of gear oil/4t

I don't think one should just dump the waste oil into the sewers. The used oil should be stored in a plastic container (those 1.25L soft drink bottles are suitable) and disposed off at either a workshop or petrol station for proper disposal.

Let's be more environmentally responsible if one is planning on DIYing.

Just open the hex screw and plastic cap. Be careful....once u open the hex screw...oil will start to srip. That is the engine oil.

Drain every last bit of oil.

Screw back the hex screw. Put the new engine oil(at plastic cap entrance). Finally put back the plastic cap.

Tats it!.

Some ppl may want to put some oil or dirt remover into the engine before putting in the new engine oil but its optional.

Actually, I think the three options you stated are not acceptable at all but please, do what you like/wish. I am just stating a sensible and responsible opinion as I don't believe that our sewer system was designed to remove such waste products like oils, paints etc. that is why petrol stations and workshops have used oil drums to collect spent oils.

eh tee he is right lah~ we should take care of the environment more. dun need me to elaborate u should also know it is everybody's responsiblity.

do try to drain off your used oil into a plastic container AFTER u line it with a plastic bag. dat way u can wwrap it up after wards and easily dispose it and still reuse the container.

in this aspect it would be better to let the motor shop do it since they have a spent oil drum to dispose of the oil.

put into 2t container then nxt time go mototiam just pour in loh...

try not to throw into dustbin lah... coz some garbage is used to reclaim land...

if pour into drain... singapore's drainage system sends the water collected to the reservoirs, so if you don't mind drinking engine oil, pls go ahead ^_^

and ah tee ah.... if everyone think like you, the sewers become all oil liao...

yes i been into the sewers b4 and i always slip on the goddamn grime on the floor left there bcos inconsiderate ppl empty their used motoroil into the drains. the oil will only float and cause the rubbish to clog up at the surface and hence the whole sewage chokes up. throwing into the dustbin is better than that at least.

by the way... de water in the sewers will be treated and the cleaned water will be reused for industry, but the sludge left behind is a big headache and if there is oil, it makes it tough to reuse as fertilizer.

If 10 bikers throw 650 ml each....it would come up to 6.5 l. If 100, 65 l. If there are 10,000 bikers in sg.... u do ur own calculations...
