Phantom150's noisy chain

hi all.

i'm riding a phantom 150, first bought in '99. i noticed that lately the chain is very noisy. it was still noisy after tightening it and worse still i notice after my mechanic tightened the chain, after anudder 1000km it slackened again (about 4cm freeplay, manual said 2-3cm).
any phantom riders out there experience same problem? on road i notice a lot of phantom150 have this same loud metallic rasping sound coming from the chain, and i oso notice from observing stationary phantom150's the chain oso looked quite slack. donno bout the phantom200, didnt notice any such sound, mebbe still new or honda rectified the problem already.
phantom150 riders if u know about the problem or got solution pls share thanx.

Phantom and Shadow all have the same rattling sound made from the chain..

from far u can hear the chain sound.. i played a game with my friend b4.. tryin to listen to the sound to judge which bike is comin..

both of us agreed that phantom, shadow, RVF and S4 is the most easy to hear.. basically Honda's bike are easy to hear..

the sound your bike make is normal, i think..

my phantom also chain loud, but after I change the chain and sprocket, not so loud already.

If your mechanic tightened the chain all the way and you still find it loose, it's best to change the whole sprocket set.

anyway, i m also a phantom150 rider.. i also feel dat the chain sound is louder than most bikes...
but does anyone know whether the quality of the chain wil affect the speed n performance of a bike?
if i change the chain n sprocket, wil the speed be faster n smoother running?

i think phantom 200 cannot hear the chain sound becoz the exhaust pipe emits a larger sound then the chain lor. or maybe honda already solve the problem liao…

I change all(the entire set) for $150
yes, after changing, the running smoother. faster or not, no difference, but smoother rider and less noisy

since a lot ppl say the chain noise normal i feel a lot better, dam scared when i move off on bike then hear that loud rattling noise like macam anytime will break.
can i know wat type chain you changed? i oso heard the type of sprocket u use can affect performance, as in the number of spokes on the sprocket, less spokes better acceleration but lower top speed and vice versa. anybody any idea?

phatom east to hear coz of the tupid chain. s4 easy to hear coz the engine is abnormall soft gsx also quite easy to hear rvf too shadow dunno hot the hell u hear coz steed sounds the same. but one most obvious one is xr4

it should be smoother running i suppose with the same size... you can also experiment with the rear sprocket sizes to adjust pickup and top-end. increase of whichever one would cause a decrease in the other.

bigger rear sprocket = better pickup but poorer top end...

everytime you change, you change different sizes... gotta use your memory already... or you get a friend to change together with you. try each other's bike...

I think
Rear sprocket with less teeth(small) = better pick up

Rear sprocket with more teeth(BIG) = slow pickup but top speed higher.

Can someone who noe the answer pls enlighten me?

btw O-Ring and X-Ring chain would not spoil so easily when u Drag your gear compared to those lousy chain....But if u dun do that then it's should be okay to use normal one..
