New Arsenal signing William Gallas claims he could have become one of the best defenders in the world at former club Chelsea.

The France international made his Gunners debut at left back on Saturday, as Arsene Wenger's men were held to a 1-1 draw by ten-man Middlesbrough at The Emirates Stadium.

Gallas's deadline day move across London came in acrimonious fashion, as Chelsea publicly accused the former Caen and Marseille centre back of threatening to score an own goal or get sent off, if selected against his will by manager Jose Mourinho.

The 29-year-old was quick to deny the Stamford Bridge club's claims and believes that had Mourinho played him in his usual centre back position, he would have become one of the game's best.

"I could have become one of the best players in the world at Chelsea, but was never given the chance," Gallas told the News of the World.

"I was dragged around to play in different positions just to please the manager.

"I have been done a disservice for a long time. I couldn't progress as a player because you need stability - I never had that.

"It wasn't the position in itself that bothered me, just the fact I was always changing.

"I could have stayed on the left and become one of the best players in the world at that position, the same for the right-hand side - but I was never given that chance.

"You need to be given a whole season in one of those positions.

"Now, I'm recognised for my qualities in the centre - but that could have happened a lot sooner."

beardsley, s.taylor ,beckham , mcmanaman, redknapp and fowler might not be played regularly by chelsea now Z and also you consider bardsley a talent ???? Look @ diarra from chelsea........he is also a talent but not yet up to 1st team standard of chelsea Z

after reading your post for the past 3 days...i concluded that you dunno anything abt football.. its not fault of yours that you dunno as much as the rest of the guys here, but before you can match up with the rest, just try to control your replies to prevent making a fool of yourself, btw, youth promotion from academy is totally different from young player brought from other team's academy, unless the player was like brought in at a very young age instead of 20-24.

ghimpheng SG

lol ? who are you to judge me ? and why should i control my replies just because of your "useless" comments on me ? better than people here who are bias against chelsea ? and you don't seems to know football too you are just here to make comments on others and chelsea ?

so tell me which of them was cultivated from young?
all of them were bought at a high price...and 3-4 of them was stolen from other clubs...

U're a new fan of Chelsea aren't u?
Let me tell u why John Terry is doing so well at the moment.
Chelsea were owing millions before Abramovic bought over Chelsea and John Terry was on the verge of joining Newcastle to repay the debts.
Den Abramovic stepped in.
He cleared the debts and Terry stays. Terry was also very lucky to have Frank Lebeouf and Marcel Desailly as his mentor and the rest is history.
Chelsea do not have any academy players for now. Just take a look at Chelsea bench. Mourinho once said that he wants 2 world class players in every position so where does the youth players play? Reserve? No. Cos the 2nd String players would most probably be Abramovic old toys i.e Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge.

Cheers.

Diarra is bought over from a french side and if i'm not wrong, Le Havre.\
He's not from Chelsea since young, i.e 12.

sorry if you think that i'm insulting you.. and i'm not trying to make you look like a bad guy, in football there isn't supposed to have good or bad guy, its just yours and my opinion and well, guess i shouldn't try to chip in my 2 cents worth and hope that you'll see things from a different point of view... anyway, you are free to say what you want be it right or wrong..so i'll just stfu and talk football instead!!! I'd rather Terry became a magpie and RA bought out Leeds. It was a shame to see the Whites being relegated.

weiqimun SG

actually, if the youth academy cannot produce good players to feed into the senior squad, I dun see what's the problem with buying.

The reality is, in this day and age, only one or 2 players will rise thru' the rank to be one of the club's great.

suckthumb.com SG

its perfectly fine not to be able to produce young guys constantly, but over here the hoohaa is abt those young players that Chelsea had currently are not from its youth team and so can’t be term as academy product.
