Darren Bent is confident of a revival at Charlton Athletic after this week's Cup win over Carlisle.

Bent said: "It would have been a tough start even with a full squad if you look at the teams we have played (West Ham, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bolton and surprise leaders Portsmouth).

"But morale certainly hasn't slipped. Everybody is working hard to put things right and we are confident we will soon move up the league.

"The manager has come in, made some good signings and we have quite a big squad including a lot of good youngsters who can step in.

"We are all behind the boss and I'm told he suffered some reaction from the fans after the Portsmouth game on Saturday - although, personally I didn't hear it - and if that is the case it is disappointing."

Dowie revealed he almost dropped Bent for the Carlisle game after his below-par performance against Portsmouth last weekend.

"I had a word with Darren but he takes criticism in the same manner as he accepts praise and his face lit up when I told him he was playing," said Dowie.

"I felt he dipped below his standards against Portsmouth but he was much more like his old self in the cup tie. He's very important for us."

Axe bent you must be kidding me the services from the charlton midfield is so poor still dare to comment that his perforamnce is below-par.........................it is more like the midfielders problem instead of Darren Bent

my understanding is again pretty poor when it comes to your post.. when you said the above sentence was you try to tell us it was because you said that both of them supposed to be axed hence, Ballack will be out for 3 games???? if not then whats Ballack got to do with your saying that they both be axed??? nah it was obvious that the midfield services was poor.............everyone can see that as long as they got watch charlton match so have you ? did you see charlton match ? if not then you should not just based on what Ian dowie comment on Darren Bent And put a judgement on Bent

the services may be poor but is Bent doing super well in try to link up with the midfield? young boy.. football is a 11 man game, you need other players to come support when one of the dept is off form and no waiting at your position and wait for the ball to roll to your feet..oh and btw, manager's asessment of players wouldn't be just by one single game its usually after a period of non-performing that will makes the manager to jump his gun.. and if the player agreed with his manager's opinion, do you still think they are both wrong?

1stly, you re-read your cut and paste job and see if you still think Bent didn't agreed with his manager's opinion.

2ndly, Stan Collymore, Fowler, Andy Cole, RVN, Ronaldo, Raul was also one of the most profilic strikers the couple of season before this, so can you be sure that they'll be as good as last year or their previous years???? does it even makes any differences to the current form? if last season's form is going to be transfer to the next then maybe EPL should take a rest this year.. cos in anyway Chelsea is going to win again.
disclaimer:but i'm in no way trying to say that Bent is not a good player.

3rdly, is the striker doing very well?

lastly, whats the bench mark of striker playing very well?????
