Peterborough trip is potential banana
skin - Davies
Simon Davies insists Everton will take nothing for granted against
his old side Peterborough in the Carling Cup tonight.
Davies, 26, knows from experience that Everton cannot expect a
walkover at London Road despite being on an impressive unbeaten run
in the Premiership.
'It's not going to be easy,' said Davies.
'When the cup games come around, they come out in force and pack
the place out. It's important that we impose ourselves early on and
try to kill the game off.
'We are on a good run but the manager has kept our feet on the
ground and, although we know we are all in good form, we are just
taking things one step at a time.
'Everyone in the squad is pushing each other and, as players, we
expect that from each other.'
Davies has been a frustrated bystander during Everton's impressive
start to the season and the Wales midfielder is determined to prove
a point when he returns to the club where he began his
career.
His youthful talent was spotted by Barry Fry - who has just stepped
down after a spell as chairman to continue as director of football
- and Davies is almost certain to play a part against his old
mentor this evening.
Manager David Moyes is expected to give a chance to several players
who have been out of the first-team picture, including Davies, Andy
van der Meyde, David Weir and goalkeeper Richard Wright.
Lee Carsley, who was substituted in the 2-2 draw against Wigan
following a knock to his ribs, has recovered and will travel, but
James McFadden and Alan Stubbs are still injured.
