Hi ,

just wondering what are the advantages of upgrading?

I will like to stick to my Class 2b bike for maybe 3 more years until i go to the army. In the meantime get my licence Class 2A then 2.

Then if i upgrade, just go straight up to a Class 2 bike. Straddling in between , you lose money each time you change bike,and big bike parts are more expensive and less maintenable in Malaysia. Petrol and road tax and insurance oso more expensive.

But big bikes are safer?

i got hear pple toking bout 4 stroke bike r easier to maintain than 2 stroke bike, but this is wad u heard, i m still wif 125 thus shoulndt tok too much bout 4 stroke

i think the only reason for 2a n 2 is when u get into trouble, the TP will kantong ur 2/ 2a, leaving ur 2b, this happen to my friend, at least his 2a saved his 2b...

Maybe cos i am dem poor.

But i pretty happy with my 2B bike cos $200 for rd tax plus insur .

Maybe $150 repair/maintenance per year and another $20/mth petrol. Works out to only $600 per year!

That is $50/mth quite affordable lah. If i upgrade to 2A bike , things may be less affordable liao

me now juz taking prac 2 /2b.. but i started my research quite long ago.. at first i want a scooter or vespa..until i found out they are cheap but not stable then changed to aprilia.. found out too ex then i decided on rxz until i saw an italian version of rxz. hehe.. gilera dna 180.. but then too ex and no gear.. no gear, no fun.. so i moved on to a sp.. but hear alot of good and bad pts abt sp.. and now decided on a krr cos 1st hand cheap.. wonder wats next?

i rode a aprilia and sp b4.. nvr got top speed.. juz in carpark and in jb.. but the sp seems smoother to me.. or maybe my fren's aprilia something wrong..

or shld i juz save up and straight go class 2? R1 would be the choice for me cos of the looks.. in the meantime, can work despatch.. but cannot lar.. legs and hands itching already

but my main factors for a 2b bike is.. cost of bike and maintenance, looks and speed..

are big bikes safe? the answer is no. despite talks of big bikes being more stable because of the wider tyres, it is still unsafe.

the reason is that they build up speed very quickly, therefore even a minor accident can be very fatal.

the safety level of a big bike can be quite controversial. what roger said is right also, a big bike can build this complacency in you that you're safer, when it's all about the same. of course, the added visibility on a bigger bike cannot be denied. one thing about bigger bikes is that you won't get the fuel efficiency anymore on a bigger bike. for example, even as a super 4 may have a bigger fuel tank, you'll still get about the same 250 to 300km per tank. but i think the bigger bikes are a joy to ride.

one more thing, if you pass your class 2A or class 2, you'll start with 12 demerit points again for one year, just like when you pass your 2B, but no P-plate.

2b bike only got SINGLE disc brake while class 2A and 2 got DOUBLE disc brake

Subisiniki, i use a TZR125. It may not look as exciting as a sportsbike, but i am very happy with it. If you are thinking of cost, get an RXZ or TZR. 2nd hand, $2500 for the former , $1000 for the latter. Somemore , maintenance at JB is possible, low fuel consumption, low insurance.

Brand new RXZ are $6000? Whereas in Malaysia the same bike with new fittings is about RM5500. It's not advisable for you to get a new bike. As a beginner, it's advisable for you to get a cheap bike and a second hand one, in case you buang or you scratch , not as xim tia.Imagine if you scratch your aprilla or brand new SP( touch wood...)

Paikuakia, not true that 2B bikes only single disc. My TZR has double disc brake.

actually going on to 2A and 2 (especially 2) is more about passion then anything else.

if you want a bike just for transport, there's more than enough choices in 2B.

getting the license is 1 thing. actually getting the bike is another.

Passion for riding? Well...if there was no passion, then you wouldn't be enjoying the wind in your face everyday would you? I guess the bigger bikes are a status too, like a ferrari is to the average driver as the Hayabusa is to the average biker.

Double disc i meant single disc on borh front and rear bike.

Anyway , yah , i do agree that Class 2 is more of a passion , like in a Harley or Hayabusa.

I am thinking of getting a Hayabusa or a touring bike when my financial situation changes and money is less of a concern. That will have to wait 3 years when i go back to the army. In the meantime i just get the licence and then stick to 2b bike for a couple years

Actually quite difficult leh.

I bought my basic bike for transport for $1.4 K plus repairs. Then spend a further $200 to renew insurance and road tax.

Prepared to pay another $400 for general use for one year.

That's about $2K for my first year of use of my bike. Second year will be just $600.
Over three years, i will spend $3200. That is not a small sum for a student.

I can't afford to keep changing bike and i prefer to pay the bike in full. So will save up till i have enuf money. Don't want to keep paying money in interest.

If i get a sports bike , the insuranace rises to $800 for first party. And it is worthwhile to buy a new Class 2 bike. All that is alot of money. Plus after 3 years, i won't even be over 25 or 30. Insurance and all will still be killing.

How much can you save as student? I just paid off $9.7K for my tuition fees along for one semester. Nearly 10 grand!

And you need to set aside some contingency money , in case you buang , or your piston jam , repair will be $100 and above.

my 2nd party insurance frm NTUC = $260 for 1 year. Smile

that's why it's call passion, depends if you're willing to scrimp and save for your bike or not.
