Juventus relegated to Serie B

Reggina gonna be the fifth club to stand trial for match-fixing

Jader SG

That's right. Parmalat financial scandal. Strange enough, Tanzi (the guilty party) is not in jail.

Reggina is the 5th involved. I'm afraid there are the 6th, 7th, 8th, so on... involved as well. Wouldn't be surprised if more than half of the teams are involved.

Lazio, like Juve, have taken their appeal against their sentence to the Italian Olympic Council. Fiorentina may follow suit.

Jader SG

I guess their ultimate aim is to get zero punishment for the things they have done.

Reggina suffer 15-point deduction

Italian club Reggina will start next season with a 15-point deduction in Serie A for their role in the match-fixing scandal.

Club president Pasquale "Lillo" Foti has also been banned for two-and-a-half years and fined £20,000, while the club must also pay a £68,000 fine.

Prosecutors had requested Reggina be demoted to Serie B.

Reggina usually struggle against relegation and the deduction penalty leaves them a tough task next season.

Serie B club Arezzo avoided relegation to Serie C1 but will start next season with a nine-point deduction.

Four other clubs have been punished in the scandal.

Juventus were relegated to Serie B and docked 17 points at the start of the season for seeking an unfair advantage in the appointment of referees.

They were also stripped of the Serie A titles they won in the last two seasons.

AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina were all allowed to remain in Serie A but with points penalties.

The clubs have lodged a second round of appeals against their sentences, which were reduced in a first appeal.

The Italian Olympic Committee's conciliation court will meet on Friday to rule on Juve's second appeal.

Juventus’s appeal failed. That just proved my point about how the Italy soccer federation was determined to show the world how serious it is about this scandal, and Juve was sacrificed. Next season, Buffon, Del Piero, Nedved, Zebina and Zanetti are going to be the key players. If Trezeguet stays, that’s good, but i doubt he will wanna stay.

BrUtUs SG

quite shock no one signed trezeguet... nt even teams like pool, MU and especially NU who was looking to add striker on their list... but Del Piero reali deserve the honour for his loyalty to the club n fans...

nanren4ever SG

I agree. At a time when money is the numero uno, Del Piero staying on at Juve is a rarity. it really shows his commitment and loyalty. But I was even more suprised that Buffon will be staying. He is a world cup winner, he can easily walk into any club in the world, and yet he is not leaving. It is cases like him that makes a Juve fan like me happy, at a time when I am upset that Zambrotta, Thuram, Ibrahimovic, Cannavaro, Emerson and Capello all leave the club.

And also I am suprised that Trezequet hasn't been signed to other clubs yet, when u read all day about how Liverpool, Newcastle and Man U are interested in signing him. But then again, considering his form last season wasn't that impressive, it could have sway opinions against him. Not that I am complaining. I would rather he stay on at Juve, and help us score tons of goals and grab as many points as possible. Remember, we are starting at a 17 points deficit, so every match is cruical.

Italians face bans if Juve appeal

Fifa said Italy could be thrown out of the qualifying campaign for Euro 2008 if Juventus continue to fight relegation to Serie B for match-fixing.

Juve were relegated and docked 17 points for trying to exert influence over referees and are now trying to take their appeal to a civil court.

That would be against Fifa's rules and could lead to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) being suspended.

The FIGC told Juventus it would impose sanctions if they go to a civil court.

In a letter the FIGC said it would not "hesitate to launch the sanction process" if Juve press ahead with their plan to lodge an appeal with the Regional Administrative Court of Lazio (TAR).

FIGC also said Juve had not yet formally lodged their appeal.

Juve were relegated for their role in the match-fixing scandal that rocked Italy and were initially docked 30 points, which was reduced to 17 on appeal.

Lazio, Fiorentina, AC Milan, and recently Reggina, have been implicated and all will start next season with point deductions.

But Juve are the only Serie A team to have been relegated.

The club announced on Monday it would take its appeal against the FIGC's decision to the TAR.

The FIGC reported on their website that they have sent a letter to Fifa explaining their objections to Juve's decision to appeal to the TAR.

Lazio's appeal against their match-fixing penalty has failed, lawyers for the Roman club have confirmed.

They were docked 11 points for the new season and were kicked out of European competition and fined 100,000 euros having originally qualified for the Uefa Cup from last season's league finish.

Lazio, who had been demanding a reduction in the penalty, will now take their appeal before CONI (Italian Olympic Committee).

"The FIGC appreciated the willingness to remain in the sporting domain and to hand the judgement to the appeal court," said lawyer Maurizio Benincasaa.

"The parties weren't in agreement but in the second phase of discussion everyone expressed the desire to keep this affair in the sporting domain."

Juve carry fight to civil courts

Juventus have ignored threats of more sanctions and appealed to a civil court against their demotion for their part in Italy's match-fixing scandal.

After losing an appeal to Italy's Olympic Committee Juve have taken their case to the Lazio regional court.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) warned Juve of further punishment if they persist with their appeal.

Fifa has also warned Italy could be thrown out of the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign if Juve continue their fight.

In addition to demotion, Juventus were also stripped of their last two Italian titles and docked 17 points.

Juve's persistence in continuing their fight has already thrown the Italian domestic season into turmoil.

The Lazio Regional Administrative Court has special powers to rule in sporting cases and will hear the case on 6 September.

Fixture lists for the forthcoming season are due to be published on 30 August, and the start of the season has already been put back to 10 September.

If Juve's appeal is successful the season could be delayed by a further two weeks.

Fifa say Juve's decision to involve civil law is against its rules and has threatened to suspend the FIGC.

Italy's football scandals have brought a shame to their football fame. I believe their league will now be one of the lowest watched and they will need some time to recover again.

The thing to point out is why is there a repeat of events. Proves that officials are not doing their best to prevent such things.

I do really feel disgusted that Milan was given permission to take part in UCL and those sentences for the teams other than Juventus were so light. Its no wonder there are repeat of events.

Juve withdraw from civil action

Juventus have dropped their appeal to a civil court against demotion for their part in Italy's match-fixing scandal.

"The board has decided unanimously to withdraw the appeal it made in the past few days to the regional court of Lazio," a club statement read.

"[We will] turn instead to CONI'S (the Italian Olympic Committee) court of arbitration."

Fifa had warned Italy could be thrown out of Euro 2008 qualifying if Juve continued their civil action.

Juventus's lawyers were due to appear in front of the regional court of Lazio on Friday.

The opening day of the Serie A season has already been put back two weeks to 10 September as a result of the legal process.

Juventus were demoted to Serie B and docked 17 points for next season for their part in the scandal.

They were also stripped of their last two Italian titles.

Juventus appeal over points loss

Juventus lodged an appeal with the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) on Wednesday after deciding against taking their case to the civil court.

Juve had planned to take their appeal to the civil court after being demoted to Serie B and docked 17 points for their part in the match-fixing scandal.

But Fifa had warned Italy could be thrown out of Euro 2008 qualifying if Juve continued their civil action.

The Italian club hopes to have its points deduction reduced.

Prior to withdrawing their civil court action the club's lawyers were due to appear in front of the regional court of Lazio on Friday.

The opening day of the Serie A season has already been put back two weeks to 10 September as a result of the legal process.

Juventus were also stripped of their last two Italian titles for their part in the match-fixing scandal.

Juventus held on debut in Serie B

Juventus started their campaign in Italy's Serie B by being held to a 1-1 draw at 10-man Rimini.

Defender Matteo Paro gave them the lead on the hour mark and Rimini midfielder Domenico Cristiano was then sent off for a challenge on Pavel Nedved.

But a misunderstanding between Robert Kovac and Jean-Alain Boumsong allowed Adrian Ricchiuti in for the equaliser.

It was Juve's first-ever match outside Serie A following their relegation after the match-fixing scandal.

Their punishment also included a 17-point deduction.

Coach Didier Deschamps said: "We already knew we faced an uphill battle this season. All the matches will be like this.

"It will take time for us to adapt. Unfortunately we don't have much of it."
