headaches of fairing

no steal oso steal liao.. now say oso no use.. hahaha anyway, that incident happened 5 years ago….

roger SG

i find that the fairings on my sports bike are very prone to scratches. Debris from the road, little pebbles caused by the vehicle in front all contribute to it.

after a rainy day when the road is wet, the little rocks and pebbles on the road are more likely to hit the fairings.

is this something all sports bike riders have to live with? Do you have a better suggestion other than removing the fairings?

VspecR34 SG

I guess if you want ur bikes to look good, like fairings on the sides....,
U would hav to maintain it n clean them oftenly, otherwise get urself an ordinary or practical bike with no fairing so you dont hav to clean this n that.

Lao-K or RXZ not bad for those who are laZy in cleaning their bike. SP, TZM or any sportbikes with fairings really muz live with maintenance n ta~han clean them.

I myself also Tu~Lan sumtimes, all those dirt n mud stick onto my "Wife's clothings",
Bo bian, either u clean them or avoid those construction-site roads.

Take care

vspec…u never see my bike b4…. haahaahaa

I removed my fairings last week to wash the engine. Took me half an hour to remove it and an even longer time to put it back! Damn troublesome...

Also noticed a lot of gashes and scratches near the bottom of each fairing. Sigh..no choice lah, luckily not noticeable.

I think the best way to avoid getting scratches is to avoid all debris and obstacles on the road, ride slowly over these obstacles when unavoidable and put a thick coat of wax to help minimize damage.

roger SG

judging by the replies, i guess that it is inevitable for the fairings to have scratches here and there.

does anyone know of a way to protect the fairings?

Noah SG

You can put anti-chaffing tapes. They are transparent. Can take the torture.

Noah SG

I dare not take out my fairings .... afraid that once I take out, cannot put back, then have to go back and cry at my motor tech to put it back for me. Yah ... I know you are laffing at me. jha hahahaa

owm SG

Hi Noah,

Where do you get anti-chaffing tapes and how much are they?

Noah SG

Ohhh ... I think I forgot to mention "if you can find where to buy it" ..... Actually, I have only seen it before. But I really do not know where you can get it from. Anyone here has any ideas ?

Physically, it is just a sheet of ... err ... scotch tape ... ? can stick, but very thick. So I guess that can withstand the beating.

Sorry about the disappointment .... Smile

kof-guy SG

like that ah?
then just stick many many layers of scotch tape loh! Very Happy

YaoKuai SG

well, i tot the whole purpose of having these fairings is to protect the bike from all scratches, that's y the fairing are the parts that always kena.
it sounds like we're trying to protect something which is suppose to protect something else.....heheh

the purpose of fairings is to increase the aerodynamic efficiency of the bike. its purpose is not to protect the bike from scratches.

if u put those tapes on the bike, is it permenant? can it be removed without damaging the paintwork?

YaoKuai SG
