I remember National Day Rally this year, when the PM was using slapstick yet people thought he mean serious that DPM slapped Dhanabalan. One ST writer laments the loss of humour and slapstick in Singaporeans speech.

Few days ago, one writer wrote the difference in US and UK parliamentarian speeches. The British are famous for being skilled and crafted in language, and they use sarcasm and joke in their speeches well, especially Churchill.

singaporean politicians are known for their pragmatism and seriousness and hence they would not go for sarcasm and satire to spice up their speeches.

but they do love to use metaphors and figurative speeches and anecdotes to explain policies to the layman.

Actually, to me nowadays, SG politicians speeches are getting mundane and boriiiinggg..... Only one I stiill listen to is LKY, otherwise.....

You would want to talk to my mother. She was British educated, and really hate Singaporean worsening standard of English.

But then again, as her son, it is 'painful' to have your mother standing by your side and correcting everything you said. Mr. Green

Son: "I know my English poor what, then I go England learn some more lah!"

Mum: "No, no, its 'I know my my standard of English is poor, and that I have to travel to England to strengthen my grasp of the English language'"

Son: ................

All's Fish That Comes To The Net

Fibb caught a mermaid. "Fantastic!" Fibb cried. Mrs Fibbs frowned. "But dear," Fibb said, "isnt it true what fishermen say, that all's fish that comes to the net?" This proverb tells us that when something comes our way we should consider how it might be useful or benefit us.
