Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis has confirmed David O'Leary will
remain in charge of first-team affairs.
The Irishman's future in charge of the Midlands outfit had been in
doubt following a disappointing season.
O'Leary had previously stated he was keen to stay, but now Ellis
has confirmed the club have decided to stick with the former Leeds
boss.
"There's been a lot of talk since our last match with Sunderland,
but all I can say is that the board quickly identified that David
remains the best person to lead us into the new campaign," Ellis
told the club's official website.
"There is no doubt we need their commitment more than ever but all
I can say is that during the last week, David and his team have
underlined their continued determination to put things
right."
O'Leary recognises the club have endured a disappointing campaign
and is determined to turn around their fortunes on the pitch.
O'Leary added: "The meetings we've had, have identified that
everyone has a shared vision for this football club. I am
determined to show that this season's struggles were a one-off and
should be put firmly behind us.
"No-one should doubt my commitment to getting it right and the
discussions we've had - and the plans we've put into place - make
me more convinced than ever that we'll prove the critics wrong next
season."
