With such a one-sided scoreline, Singaporeans can now see the
gulf in class between genuine world-class players and world class
pretenders.
Competing with the best needs to be on a level in all places.
Technique isn't good enough simply because the Australians' SIZE
and INVENTIVENESS is something we lack, so much so that they
brazenly swagger past us without raising a sweat.
The team needs to be taking the right food supplements and
high-carbo diets to help improve our physical attributes to stand a
chance of competing with the best. More exposure is also a
must.
Some myopic locals believe sending the teams to get trashed was a
waste of taxpayer's money since they never stood a chance for a
medal. But that is naivity and empty pride talking. To beat the
best you have to compete with the best, study them and learn from
the defeats, however large the drubbing may be.
It's also magnimous for the Australian Netball coach to apologise
for the humilating scoreline inflicted upon us.
That's something else we can learn.
