Dirty? No. But definitely too skillful for some of Chelsea's defenders.

after del horno sent off it was a different game and why puyol was not sent off Z Rolling Eyes

dragg SG

i agree.

the sending-off tipped the match in barca's favour. it was evenly matched before then.

Poolman SG

A good team doesn't need to succumb to this rough tactic to win games .

Del Horno struggled against Messi , he lost his cool , and that's it and the red .

Poolman SG

There is no 50-50 for this match , this match Barca deserve to win cos they control possession for 65% , against 35% of chelsea .

Strangely enough , they ( Chelsea ) got an undeservely lead , courtesy of an Motta's own goal .

And strangely so , Terry conceded one for them too .

Chelsea stars Eidur Gudjohnsen and Frank Lampard were united in condemning referee Terje Hauge for sending off Asier Del Horno in the UEFA Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

The Premiership leaders were beaten 2-1 by the Catalan club after losing the services of their Spanish full back for a clumsy foul on Lionel Messi in the first half.

Midfield duo Gudjohnsen and Lampard were disappointed that the red card was produced for the challenge.

"For me, it's just a foul," Icelandic ace Gudjohnsen, who was extremely impressive in a midfield role, told Sky Sports. "They clash basically.

"Messi makes a meal of it and the referee buckles under pressure."

Lampard felt similarly about the incident and stressed any malice would have been out of character for the defender.

"I haven't seen Del Horno do any crazy tackles or anything since he's been here," said the England midfielder.

"I don't expect him to start in such a big game."

Sore losers~~~ Cool Laughing

i dont think the tackle warrants a red card.

but it is not important anymore.

the important thing is the 2nd leg. chances of beating barca now is slim, but not impossible.

loseagain SG

Maybe lor, but they were tired leh, n if chelsea got 11 they could have got their goals even if barca still got 2

loseagain SG

more like messi lost his balls n the ref lost his eyes

if not for the sending-off the match could go either way.

Looks like Chelsea winning the CL is a far fetch dream, at least this season.

Poor Roman, after spending so much of his roubles, his CL dreams this season seems to be wrecked by the home loss and the sending off of Del Hornier.

I dun think Chelsea can dominate europe the way they dominate epl. There are teams as strong if not stronger than Chelsea, like AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona.

dragg SG

you need consistency to win a premiership.

it is very different for a tournament.

as history has shown the best team dont always win.

marcteng SG

to win CL, you also needed consistency from the outset too.

charlize SG

No leh.

Group stages, you can afford to lose games and just finish second to qualify for the next round.

Knockout stage, you can afford to lose one leg as long as you beat the opponent by a bigger margin in the other. Laughing

Parka SG

Anyway, this is a big leap of standard in terms of quality football from Chelsea. Few years ago, players shooting wide of goals are so common. Almost like Sleague, except EPL at least have some passing.

Parka SG

And the freaking red card is for the offense/foul/untimely tackle, NOT for how injured Messi was.

People are actually quite absorbed by the story on play acting, even Moaninho.

marcteng SG

Yes, true in that sense.
But you cant just turn in on and off like a tap in terms of consistency and performance.

Those who set out to win CL, will try to win first place and then when the competition resumes in feb, have to have consistency all the way to the final.

Look at Liverpool consistency last year from feb to may, from second round to semi finals, where chelsea beat them 3 times already.
