I don't think the local talent will die out.
Firstly, after the collapse of 2010, i think now Soccer bodies tend
to look @ bigger picture than have this 2010 on their back.
secondly, what local talent will have that no one else will have,
it is what Fandi said "Spirit". They understand the passion,
expectations of us, Singaporeans. And most of them grew up in the
Malaysian Cup Era so they understand a game with our neighbour,
Malaysia is bigger than Liverpool meeting MUFC.. It is a DERBY
which we can't lose.
thirdly, a foreign talent, my biased opinion, if they are really
good, do they need to go to SEA or Singapore?
For me, like table-tennis, it was a joke, when I saw a match
between New Zealand and Canda or something, they are all played by
ex-China players. I feel that these countries are collecting or
keeping what China doesn't need.
There was a joke going around saying that if big countries need
their players to have real-life competitions, just send them to
small countries like SGP, and then when times come, just take them
back. Look @ local female basketball team. The foreign imports can
come and go as they wish.
Back to soccer, it is really shameful enough that with foreign
imports/talents, we are not winning against teams like Vietnam, or
Indonesia. I rather that we use what we have and fight. Lose, never
mind.
I once read a sport article that malaysia rugby team refuses to
play against singapore rugby team cause we are a team of rojak. Got
people from Japan, and many other etc.
I feel we need to stop and restrick like soccer, EPL, etc. We
should restrict to only 10-20% foreign imports only. Else, spoil
the game. A club and country seems the same. No spirit, no
loyalty.
