CX SG mongolian only exists in mongolia what a joker... u don't know the difference between a race, an ethnicity and a nationality.
CX SG u think wrong... singaporean is a nationality. we are culturally and ethnically chinese, malay or indian, we have our respective language, english is our language of business. so... if all who lives in china are chinese, then who are the Miao? the Tibetans? the Uighurs? the Manchus? and the hundreds of ethnic minorities that lives within the borders of china? are they chinese?
^mR.yellow^86 SG CX's right. Hokkien/Teochew/Cantonese is a enthnicity/dialect. Chinese is a race. Singaporean is a nationality. So we are Singaporean. We are also Chinese. Maybe you also can't differentiate between race and religion. We can be Hindu or Christian while we are Chinese and we are Singaporean.
eric shang SG no . I never been to singapore,my english is not good ,i learn 10 years english ,but still not good ,i have to pass english -4 level ,or i can not graduate from colledge ,so ,i come to the forum ,
^SpIKie^ SG Dis gotta be in the "Joke of the Year".. Guess u haven't heard of the phrase "As long as there's land, there's chinese". Your defination of "Chinese" is mixed up because in yr country its refered to as "Zhong Guo Ren" which is why u called yrself "Chinese" instead of "Chinaman". But over here n other region of the world "Chinese" simply means "Hua Ren" or "Hua Yu" or "Hua Yi". Most of the time people who are born in other countries even for us , so called "Spore Chinese" who's forefather came from china, would called ourself chinese as in "Hua Ren" even thou trend is newer generations like 4th or 5th or 6th might slowly wanna forasake this this chinese trail they have. Its all in the blood my friend.......think about it!!!!!!!! Don't like being labelled "Chinese" than can always find some other race to mix blood than called yrself other race....simple Anyway below is some examples of wrong definations when u chose to define "gan1" as "gan4" n choose to translate it to..............read yrself Last but not least .....do not repeat wat u said here in coffee shops coz those "Ah pek" cant stand it might smack u.........
le cruz SG This xenophobic chinaman is not in singapore lar. Anyway, a few years ago, most ppl would not have been so ready to associate themselves with and declare that their roots are in China.... how times have changed.
^mR.yellow^86 SG huh Quinsy you must forgive him..it’s just the matter of interpretion of the word ‘chinese’ by him.
boy in blues SG this guy's ethnicity is not chinese as claimed. it doesn't matter whether or not any S'porean chinese wishes to declare that his roots are in China. all that matters is that the rest of the non-chinese world treats all chinese equally
CX SG not true actually... the cultural identity was always independent of the national identity... just cos china was undeveloped doesn't mean that u became less chinese... in the same way, we are not more chinese now because of it. i speak the language, i live by the culture, i remember the stories of my grandparents who came from china in the 30's but i DO NOT identify with a mainland chinese. in fact, they make me sick. they're just a bunch of loud, uncouth, uncivilised farts.
sexiest_studin_world SG Originally posted by eric shang: east asian and white are best in the world.I don't think so!
dragg SG so... if all who lives in china are chinese, then who are the Miao? the Tibetans? the Uighurs? the Manchus? and the hundreds of ethnic minorities that lives within the borders of china? are they chinese?[/b][/quote] the above are all chinese nationals but not chinese. actually it is more appropriate to call us 'hans'. we are mostly, if not all hanren.
