alwaysdisturbed SG nwadays i feel dat captains r no longer based on influential power n seniority of a player in the club of country... its nw solely on whoever is famous...
Jeno SG i prefer to have players who r born n bred at the club.. at least it gives some identity to the clubs.. e.g. John Terry for Chelski Steven Gerrard for Liverpool Gary Neville for Man Utd
alwaysdisturbed SG do u tink van nistelrooy is a motivator? wayne rooney? or even micheal owen? in my opinion, i dun tink they r... captaincy is seemingly given to those who score goals...who r naturally famous...n nt one who coordinates, motivate the team in the game...
lpx88 SG being a famous striker aside i fink wayne rooney mite be a gr8 captain if he continues to mature
White_Shadow^AngeL SG who would want to see a captain getting send off for his "incredible" behaviour on the pitch?
Jeno SG Rooney has the capability to inspire himself & others to play well... although he still has to learn to control not to mouth off.. that frequently..
JusStatic SG Hmm how come that time Beckham is not the captain of Man Utd despite he is more famous than Roy Keane?
nefnuy SG So alwaysdisturbed, you must have some team or someone in mind to form this idea right? Care to name a few captains that are more famous and who can score goals as opposed to a more eligible one? I can see Henry as one.. But in his case it's different, he doesn't give instructions to the team, but he's just too good. And the team looks up to him.. and he's commited so I still feel he's the most eligible..
JusStatic SG Well according to someone (look at previous few posts), whoever is famous can be captain. I am merely just asking for his opinion and do not need your mocking comments here.
Twice A Day SG Agree...To be..some teams really captain ridiculous players...IMO rooney is good no doubt...But i dont the team the team will play any lousier if neville or van der sar is captain. I just dont feel the extra motivation if i imagine rooney or owen with captain armband in my team... I feel its players like vieira or lampard...Have to be in the thick of action to guide his team mates with his vision...Whats impt is age and experience bah... Feel quite weird to have a 20 year old shouting at you to do something... IMO players like maldini, lampard, keane who are experienced and always getting involved makes the best captains....
BrUtUs SG i dont see him as good captain... as captain he should be giving instructions here and there... can score goals also no use when the midfield and defense cant coordinate properly... i jz feel striker cant be good captain...
flying`winger SG Strikers cant be good captains because the are selfish. They lead the team by example, banging in lots of goals and inspiring teammates. I think Henry is also maybe too whiny to be captain? A good skipper would be tony adams, commanding and always there to stick up for his teammates. I've never heard adams backstabbing other teammates behind their back.
Jeno SG i also did not hear any backstabbing from thierry henry (aka the great one).. An example of good striker captain is Alan Shearer.. He's been there since ages ago.. and still leading out his team.. Why can't a player whom score goals, be a captain ? Isn't Lampard scoring a few? Even John Terry gets his fair share of goals.. so maybe those whom can't score make the best captain.. Petr Cech ? One more thing, Henry had the most assists last season.. talk abt being selfish.. For me personally.. respect is the key word.. Alan Shearer is the captain becos players and fellow professionals respect him.. If your teammates doesn't respect you, even if you are at the grand age of 40yrs old, it doesn't matter.. Henry might be a magical player.. but if his gooners teammates respect him.. i can't see why he can't be the captain.. Rooney like-wise.. might be 20yrs old.. but if the older players respect his ability and his desire to work for the team... Being skipper isn't much of a problem for the boy wonder... Just my 2 cents
