I'll start the ball rolling, but not at 1990

1995: FIFA World Player: George Weah (AC Milan) (First african to win this award), 2nd Paolo Maldini (AC Milan), 3rd Jurgen Klinsmann (FC Bayern Munich).

George Weah is not to be mistaken for the guy who played for Arsenal Christopher Wreh.

1990: FIFA World Player: Lothar Matthäus (FC Bayern Munich)
1991: FiFA World Player: Lothar Matthaus (FC Bayern Munich)

Position: Sweeper, Defensive Midfielder. Midfield General

For newer generation of soccer fans, Matthäus is best remembered for being subbed off by FC Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfield in their 1999 dramatic loss to Man Utd in the CL final. He went into the dressing room thinking he was going to lift the trophy but when he emerged from the dugout, it was not to be. He was 39 then.
