the best keepers in epl are not from e top teams

zatoichi SG

imo...the better keepers are the ones in the mid table to bottom teams..

shay given(newc), van de sar(fulham), jaskalleinen(bolton), robinson(spurs), green(norwich), friedel(blackburn)...

compare them with e keeprs in the top teams..

howard( man u), lehmann(arsenal), dudek(liverpool), cech( chelsea)

only cech is outstanding...e rest not so...but the defence in front of them is solid...

the rest of the keepers make headlines more than these "top" keepers...

correct me if i am wrong Wink

essence is substance.zatochi.

agree..

maybe they should exchange keeper when the new season starts, so the better team will be better..lolx

arse-fan SG

Because they are kept busy in every game. Whereas teams such Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man U, their opponents got little chance to attack against them and hence goalkeepers not being tested.

chris kirland from liverpool is a good keeper, except he gets injuried too often

The problem with top teams is that the Goalkeepers think they can sleep between the posts.... Laughing

Maybe they dont get enough practise. Not much balls to stop. Laughing

How do u rate keepers? Wat is ur standard based on? The number of saves per match? I agreed with arse-fan that the keepers u mentioned r dealing with more shots per game than the others from top teams. So Peter Cech looks solid cos he has perform adequently so far, but I wondered how he fared against some of the stronger teams in Champ's League? That's if Mourinho don't play like Porto last season after losing Drogba.

Lehman is dodgy at Arsenal n Howard is having a bad spell at Man U. Surprisingly, 2 ex-Leeds keepers r having their best form so far, Nigel Marthyn n Paul Robinson. I wondered how much of that is due 2 their dogged defence or the current form of their team?

One thing is for sure, keepers r the number one person under scrutiny after a defeat n the last person 2b congratulated when the team is successful. But keepers with class r also those that will perform well regardless of the form of the team, except 4 the occasional howlers.. Peter Schmichel anyone?

Edwin van der Saar of Fulham certainly fit this status as he plays behind a dodgy defence n yet comes thru with flying colours most of the time.

imo Leeds has very good youth player

Now they have a keeper Scott carson who is just as good as paul robinson imo.. but have to wait till neil sullivan gets out of the way Razz

their outfield players also not bad.. got potential

frazer richardson, matthew kilgalon ( 4got spelling Embarassed ), aaron lennon, simon walton Very Happy

Speaking of keepers.. why dun we discuss abt current england no.1 s and who should rightly claim the number 1 gloves ?

David james - NEver goin to be 1 ... but i dun noe who in the 1st place put him in there... maybe his past reputation has put himself on back foot... but u haf to say that he dun not make that much clangers during his international days... but he is always goin to be a time-bomb , waiting to "drop" bombs on his own team .. Twisted Evil

Paul Robinson - Had a solid start to his england career... for now , he should hold on to his no. 1 .. but when it comes to claiming crosses , he is nt that comfortable with it.. opts to punch the ball .. which never brings confidence to the defence...

Chris Kirkland - This guy has always been touted as a future england no.1 .. now is the time for him to stake his claim... but whenever i watch him play 4 liverpool , he seems like a bag of nerves... he might have lightning quick reflexes and a huge frame , but his positioning is always suspectful.. and not to forget his dodgy record with injuries...

Robert Green - Another top reflexes keeper but never comfortable when it comes to claiming crosses...

I think that is it for England keepers Razz

From these 4....i think Paul Robinson should be Eng No. 1 Mr. Green
