what 'Middle-east' call their 'SEA games'?

Rob Chen SG

here in SE Asia, we have SEA (SE Asian) Games, ever wonder what regional games people from 'Middle East' participate in ?

While I know for some time 'Middle-east' is in fact West Asia (similar to the reasoning that 'Far East' is another common name for East Asia), I did not know asian there also have regional games and thought they only take part in ASIAN GAMES - 4 yrs once i think.

That day while surfing web, i accidentally learnt that 'Mid-east' asians also have a WEST ASIAN GAMES!

'West Asian Games' have 12 member nations and 'reports' to the ASIAN OLYMPICS organization. the 12 members are Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Egypt not join as Egypt join 'Africa' because despite having a small territory in West Asia (Middle-east), most of Egypt is in Africa.

Israel join Europe for religious / cultural reasons. - historical conflicts with her mainly muslim west asian neighbours.

Turkey prefers joining Europe despite most of her land is in ASIA MINOR (in West Asia) since Turkey also have land in Southwest Europe.

I think for sports games , countries goes according to name of the Continent / 'continental region' (when including islands outside the continent like Britain is under Europe Continental region) they were defined in -

'Middle East' is only the western/layman name for one of the sub-regions of ASIA continent known as West Asia, hence West Asian (mid-east) nations call their games West Asian Games, not 'Mid-east' Games,

Similarly, East Asian nations don't call their games Far East Games despite the fact that 'Far East' is the common/westernised name for East Asia.

East Asian nations and territories have a regional game called East Asian Games, only held a few times only , history not as long as SE Asian Games - with nations / areas like China, Mongolia, Taiwan, Japan, Koreas, Tibet etc. taking part.

Don't be like that lah,

here in SE Asia we also got lots of terrorist in Indonesia, Malaysia, etc that were students from their West Asian terrorist teachers and leaders,it does not mean every SE Asian is terrorist, or SEA games called SE Asia terror games Mr. Green

Similar logic also applies to West Asia, while famous for terrorism and war, it does not mean WEST ASIA GAMES is to be renamed Terrorism games... Wink

in fact Islam, Christianity and Judaism ALL originated from West Asia - amazing hey, then spreaded into Europe, other parts of Asia and rest of the world.
