Gymnastics FAQ
Q) What is gymnastics?
A) Gymnastics is a system of exercises designed to develop strength
and agility. Anything from as simple as standing or sitting in a
proper posture to something as complex as a run of backflips and
sommersaults can be classified as a gymnastics exercise. Gymnastics
was used by the ancient Roman and Greek military to train their
soldiers, as a system of physical conditioning.

A) Gymnastics is not a competitive sport. What you usually see as
"gymnastics" is Artistic Gymnastics and/or Rhythmic Gymnastics.
These are competitive sports. There are a few more sports with the
term "gymnastics" in them. That is because these sports developed
from the system of exercises called gymnastics as described
above.
