I have an Indian friend who brought some cultural deserts into
the office and they are sprinkled with silver foil. at first i
thought it is thse coating to be removed before eating but they
told me it is not but similar to the icing sugar they use in
cakes . But they dont know what its called but commonly used
in indian deserts. It's like eating aluminum foil or
something.
what is this called?

It is not sugar, Vark, sometimes referred to as Silver leaf. it
is edible but mostly tasteless ingredient used to garnish Indian
Confectionary. The sugary taste comes from the actual
confectionary, not the vark. Pretty common in almost all Indian
esrts, sweets.
