AVA says chicken essence products here safe for
consumption
SINGAPORE: The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA)
said essence of chicken products in Singapore are safe for
consumption.
It said it conducts routine checks on imports of these products,
which come mainly from Thailand and Malaysia.
AVA was responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia after news
reports of a recall in the US.
The US distributor for Brand’s Essence of Chicken had recalled
products there as the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety
and Inspection Service (FSIS) could not determine the source of the
ingredients.
Responding to the recall, Cerebos Singapore said the US recall was
due to import compliance issues and not quality or safety.
It said the products, which were made in its own manufacturing
plants, were safe and conformed to international safety
standards.
Cerebos, which has been importing the product into the US for over
20 years since 1986, is working with authorities to resolve the
compliance issues.
