should we even pay for that??

you might as well, tell the restaurant, charge you for the meat of the crab only

it is very 'unfair' that you charge me, for the shell of the crab

because i only eat the crab meat, i don't eat the shell, why do 'you' charge me for the shell as well

wait wait, how about those prawn, next time, you go to the supermarket, then you tell those counter, 'have to dry the prawn, then the shell to be stripped away, then you will pay for the prawn

you are blaming those restaurant for passing down the cost to consumer, then you might as well, don't eat crab anymore

because all crab has to be bind with ropes, so that it will run about, and

who is going to pay for the cost of the ropes

it is obviously a case of profit margin, i don't see the reason, why people should complain so much

but then, it is in our nature to complain anything that moves

Crab shell and crab meat are part in parcel of purchasing a crab coz people cook crap with the shells… not without… but that wet rope is unfair… the guy is practically paying 87.5% more than he should…

i ask you a simple question

if you go to the wholesalers, and then you saw those crab bind with ropes, and then you tell them, no i am not buying those crab with ropes

you see what will they tell you

furthermore, this is just another typical mentality of singaporean

wholesalers are the one who pass down the cost to the restaurant, you think they have a choice not to pass down the cost to the consumers, meh?

furthermore, this is a case of profit margin

I've never been to a wholesaler... but common business sense would say

actual price of crab = total weight cost - average weight of rope

because crabs are expensive... and it'd be stupid to buy weight of wet rope at a crab's price... it's like buying buying weight of copper at gold's price...

if the wholesale really sell like that then we know source of problem already...

if you go to a restaurant, and then you found out that, they are selling you the cost of the crab together with rope, anybody will be pissed off, included me, and furthermore, it will look bad on the restaurant, they might be framed for cheating, and if this case goes to CASE, what would you think, it will happen,

it will look bad on the reputation of the restaurant

Well, the shell and meat is part of the crab so I don't really pay for that. They charge me the cost of the shell per kg I don't mind.

But Don't tell me the rope cost like $10 per kg meh.

Also, if you use raffian string to tie the crab up and it contributes a little to the weight and I must pay for it, then I also won't giam the few cents.

But if the rope is weighs a few hundred grams then something is wrong. What type of crab so strong need to use so much rope? No reason lor. Also, not say I want to tie up gorilla. How many grams of raffian string is required to tie up the crab after all.

If you want to charge more then mark up the cost per kg la, don't need to try all these stunt right.

Next time I setup my crab stall and I use Metal Chains to tie up my crabs and say its part of cost also can right. Rolling Eyes

I know you watch alot of "The Deadliest Catch" on Discovery Channel. I also watch alot of foodie show as well.

But then, Alaskan king crab is not really wide spread in Sg coz its so expensive. I went Hokkaido eat and its like 200bucks a crab. Don't think Singaporeans got stomach to eat such a expensive crab at kopitiam. The crab is Sg is not even near halfway the size of the Alaskan King Crab. Even then, the crab there also never use as much rope as the one I saw in the newspaper.

Using 350gm of rope for a 400gm crab is also hell of alot. I think 350gm of raffian string can tie a normal person up really well. One entire roll of raffian also not so heavy. Unless the Alaskan king crab is stronger than a human then I nothing to say.
