Today marks the end of another chapter - the Leyland Olympian 3
axles buses are fully retired on 26th April 2013 for the last few
units registered.
They were the first ever airconditioned double decker buses
brought in by Singapore Bus Service (SBS) and was nicknamed
"Superbus" with the 'S' stylised with the SBS logo, due to the
impressive 12m length of the vehicle at that time. The Superbus
nickname also had a unique livery which stuck for most of the
airconditioned double decker fleet that were brought in until the
arrival of the low floor double decker buses.
Also notable is that the 200 Leyland Olympian 3 axles purchased
by SBS were the last batch of Leyland buses ever built, with the
last chassis ON21080 registered as SBS9168S (likely for auspicious
reasons), though the fate of ON21080 still remains a mystery while
most of its cousins were scrapped after retirement.
