7, 13, 62 (+2), 72 (+3, not very sure), 79, 94, 154

Capacity Decrease by substituting DDs with SDs:

111, 157

Today at Yishun Int, SMB7S on 811 (West loop) bus filled at 8.04pm.
Next bus, O405 came at 8.11pm. Also full, leaving some pax behind.

Was speaking to a BC on svc 72. He mentioned that there are too many buses on svc 72 during evening peak at Tampines, that a bus leaves the interchange every 4-5 minutes. He said that earlier until Dec you could see long queues, and even more than 70-80 pax filling the bus but now it is not the case.

This was on my way to HG Int from YCK. So I don't know what the real picture at Tampines is, but want to go and see it, coz I myself remember how long the queue for svc 72 used to be during evening peak.

72's big problem is that its evening peak from Tampines is actually below 5 min frequency.

But evening off-peak after 7pm is atrocious when the crowds are actually still streaming in.

And the most infuriating part is when SD comes after waiting for 20 min.

And worse when the bus actually CRAWLS.

I still vote 72 as one of the worst examples of inefficiencies. As has been the case for many years already.

It takes 45 minutes from Tamp Int to HG Swimming Complex.

By contrast, taking MRT to Pasir Ris and then switching to 88 actually takes only 35 minutes.

To add to your point, the BC did tell me that earlier they had to drive very slowly on Tampines Road to match the timing, but now he said the run time has been adjusted. Also, earlier there would be a lot of loading issue on Tampines Ave 6 and BC had to ask people to move in to get people in, causing delays. With improved frequency, not an issue anymore.

Is the travel time still 45 mins or is this from your past year's experience?

Citaro good for services like 116, 123. But it is getting used for high loading services 87, 88, 168 and I just don't understand. Can't take more than 60 pax and for cramming 70 pax, BC has to really shout passengers to move to the rear.

Mercedes-Benz OC500LE on 811 (west loop), many pax can't board and have to wait for the next bus. Forgot what's the rego. This service should get a fleet add, seeing this almost everyday. Frequency is good, just that it's crowded..

These queues are similar to the 291 evening peak queues on both loops at Tampines between 17.45 and 19.45 hours. You need 2 back-to-back DDs to clear the load. Ofcourse, 291 is unique that when the buses come, at least 2-3 of them come together, so normally the 3rd bus goes empty and then for 10 minutes there is no bus.

Also reminds me of the evening peak 225G load before 2 DDs were added on this service. Between 17.30 and 20.00 hours, you will always see some leftovers after B10M and KUB have left the stop. 225W on the other hand is just fine with SDs, each bus loading just meets 60-70 pax in evening peak, and then drops drastically after. The peak hour loading is shorter for 225W than 225G (18.00 - 19.30 hours).

I wanted to see loading on 13A as it surprises me that 2 DDs are deployed on a route that has only 3 stops to the MRT.

Stop 1: 31 pax

Stop 2: 43 pax (31+43 = 74)

Stop 3: 03 pax (74+3 = 77)

Upper deck = 18 pax, Lower deck = 59 pax

8.10 (7703K, DD, 87p) 183B; Queue continues, next bus right behind!

8.25 (8130G, SD, 71p) There were at least 20-30 pax still in queue

Average frequency: 5-6 mins, yet every bus was full. I am impressed that though the fleet is 50% DD, almost all buses coming during peak time were DDs. So most of the SDs must be at that time along Science Park - Jurong East route.
