No offence, you're either naive or either smoking pot to think
that voting "opposition" will cause the many malaise and problems
in Singapore to go away.
What Singapore needs is a remaking of its economic policy for a
more sustainable one. That means moving away from the cheap labour
mentality. We must be prepared then to see the cost of living
increase, of course wages will too in proportion to the cost
living. But there will be some shocks/repercussions to the economy
for a while if we chart a different course. Some businesses might
leave or fold. We need other ways to win businesses back - quality
labour/automation to enhance productivity, lower corporate tax and
lower contribution to CFP conversely increase in personal tax. We
won't be able to have the cake and eat it too. There's no such
thing as having higher wages without suffering from the higher cost
of living increase.
And that requires a mindset change on our part to accept a
little pain for long term benefit.
That said, I'll vote for the party who has the guts to remake
the Singapore economy to make it sustainable while minimising the
shocks. This is what you should be looking out for - the policies
the party brings to the table - its implications and not based on
the rhetoric - we want to check/balance the ruling party - not
voting other parties just to spite the other. That's irrational
voting. To me that will cause more harm than having any party
opposition or not, remake our economy.
as much as i want more opposition to be in the parliament, im
not convinced they will do any good... for example, the
inappropriately named Workers' Party has done nothing to defend the
rights of the worker for better working conditions, all wayang, no
action talk only.
