In fact i know a few pple who are accountants but left their jobs to become teachers?!(why?) one frend said the gloomy period only lasts for the first few years, thereafter the job is "seng nang" and "pays well"... HOW TRUE?? anyone to enlighten?
BillyBong SG i’m likely to be an engineer to be…sorrie can’t help….but i do know that the ones who wanna do well work long hours…LONG HOURS…
corals88 SG It's true!!! RonMAN For the first 3 years, life really sucks. A lot of work and as for money... really dunno what to say!! Eh... you shd know. If you choose to work for commercial companies, you will either too busy rushing and closing monthly accounts... as you need to familiarise with the company accounts you are working for. When it comes to year-end, all the budgeting, planning and meetings start to fill up your time. As compared to CPA firms, life will be more relaxing but prospect wise it will not be that good. If you choose CPA firms as your stepping stones, then there will be peak period Jan to June. As most companies year-end are in December. This will be a terrible and stressful period for you as you will required to do several company audit concurrently. But this will be like an international passport to you once you have attain your CPA status and your years of experience. After all these slogging years, life will not be the same... more opportunities and better prospects waiting for you... and it really pays well. Can say "xian ku hou tian" or "ku ji gan lai"
BillyBong SG Currently the economy is bad....wat do u suggest as a possible plan for fresh graduates coming into the private sector? Specifically in the banking sector?
RonMAN SG I think the demand for engineers (esp general ones) is, in economic terms, that of elastic. It's likely engineers have to face a rollercoaster ride when it comes to their career outlook. When the economy is gd, the demand will be high. Of course, since the economy is bad now, the demand is down. Maybe its time to upgrade skills, to make urself stand out more than ur competitors. Accountants are privileged in the sense that there is always a demand there. This is becos all kinds of firms, regardless big or small do require some sort of accounting personnel around .
chershen SG it's true that accountants work hard. Sometimes we also wonder how come we cant be more analytical with our money and we are so good at company figures. maybe this is becouse there isnt much of our own monwy to analyse cos we are so overworked and underpaid.
