SMRT adds more wheelchair accessible bus
services
SINGAPORE: Four more SMRT bus service routes will
have wheelchair accessible bus (WAB) services from April
29.
The four services are 187, 852, 857 and
970.
These WAB services will connect wheelchair-bound
passengers to MRT and LRT stations such as Boon Lay, Bras Basah,
Bukit Panjang, City Hall, Esplanade, Phoenix, Promenade, Raffles
Place, Tanjong Pagar, Teck Whye and Yishun.
They will also call at medical facilities such as Econ Medicare
Centre & Nursing Home in Choa Chu Kang, Gleneagles Hospital and
Medical Centre, Jurong Medical Centre, Jurong Polyclinic, Kwong Wai
Shiu Hospital & Nursing Home, Mount Alvernia Hospital, and
Singapore Buddhist Free Clinic in Jurong and Redhill.
With these new WAB services, SMRT Buses will operate a total of 17
WAB services.
Each WAB can accommodate two wheelchairs.
Currently, 245 buses, or about 23 per cent, of SMRT's bus fleet are
wheelchair accessible.
